There is no Reason to be "Good"

I am arguing that there is no ultimate reason behind morality like there is behind things of science. Thus, I am also assuming that there are no moral truths, or no a priori morality, so no guideline or ideal to which we might compare ourselves. So take note, I don't mean that there IS a reason to be BAD, I just titled the debate to imply a hopeless lack of morality in our world, or reason for morality, rather. "Good"--describing action or deliberation that is compassionate or done towards t...

Resolved: In a fight without prior preparation, Batman would defeat Spider-Man.

If Batman and Spider-Man were to fight, Spider-Man would beat the living daylights out of Batman. First, Spider-Man has superhuman abilities. Batman is an Olympic level human in terms of physical attributes. Clearly, Spider-Man is superior in this regard. Second, Spider-Man is a worthy adversary in terms of intellect. Whereas Batman abuses his billions of dollars to buy fancy gadgets, Spider-Man actually creates his sophisticated devices (while using an extremely limited amount of resource...
There are situations conceivable when torture can be justified.

Imagine that you have been carted off against your will to some dank and sadistic dungeon. Upon arriving you are immediately forced to confront an ethical dilemma. Your captors tell you that you must torture an innocent man that now sits in front of you for 5 minutes. If you fail to comply with this request they will torture the man anyway and 100 other innocent people. And not only will they torture these innocent people they will torture them all to the point of death. So, now you must make a...

Batman is Partially Responsible for the Crimes of the Joker

::Introduction:: I challenge the talented and well-versed sherlockmethod to what is sure to be a very fun debate. Good luck to my opponent and enjoy the read! Full Resolution: The fictional character known as the Batman is partially responsible for some of the crimes of the fictional character known as the Joker. I shall argue in favor of the resolution and my opponent shall argue against it. I ask that my opponent take the contrary position (i.e. Batman is not partially responsible...) ra...
"Lamb Of God" is the best representation of "Pure American Metal" music in all of the United States.

I believe that "Lamb Of God" is the best representation of American Metal in all the United States, and I'm not just making this statement based on the concert I went to recently where the played an amazing show in Myrtle Beach. My statement is based on their music and lyrics...each song has a very deep and meaningful meaning but at the same time their sound is so insane and metal and whats even better is that you can understand every word not like some Metal bands that also have great lyrics bu...
Hitler rose from the dead and ate everyone's brains for real
Dear Spf thank you for taking this argument as you know hitler came back from the dead in order to make a third reich out of radio active waste and then made monsters out of that nuclear waste which ressurrected Mel Gibson from the dead in order ot make a film that would have about 1 billion people watching it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_passion_of_the_christ...
This is Debate 6666.

This is debate number 6666. Isn't that cool? You all think it's very cool!...
Pascal's Wager is a failed argument.
Yeah, I can never think of a good wording of the debate topic. Basically, I am here to refute Pascal's Wager. Your common Christian uses it a lot, and it gets tiring sometimes. And I'm so nice, I'll let my opponent go first (I'm lazy and new quarter is coming up, sue me)....
