Free will probably exists in humans.

Free will: "...a particular sort of capacity of rational agents to choose a course of action from among various alternatives." (Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy) To define further, free will means that the ultimate decision comes down to the rational actor and is not wholly determined by external conditions. I negate the resolution: Free will probably exists in humans. *** Why Free Will Is Impossible 1: Determinism Every event is caused by a preceding event. To our knowledge, ev...
Resolved: Public health concerns warrant government violation of pharmaceutical patents.

In this debate I'm taking the side of con for the following topic. Anyone willing to accept this topic will first need to present an affirmative case in any way they see fit.(Any style or any format is fine) So, I hope we have a smooth debate and best of luck to whoever accepts!...
I am better than you

There are no definitions in this debate. There is no frameworking. I am better than you because I am. "I'm hot because I'm fly, you ain't because you not" (1) is my warrant. (1) This is why I'm Hot by M.I.M.S....
School uniforms ought to be worn in primary and secondary schools.

School Uniform: An outfit of clothing to be worn daily to school. "Traditionally, school uniforms have been subdued and professional. Boys' uniforms often consist of dark trousers and light-colored shirt, often with a tie. Girls' uniforms [...] typically consist of a dress or a blouse worn either with a skirt or culottes or under a pinafore." (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/School_uniform) It is assumed that wearing the school uniform (as described above) does not conflict with any religious...
It is morally permissible for parents to choose the sex of their child.

I do not think that any definitions are necessary. To clarify, assume that the parents have some means of pre-assigning the sex of their child. Although I am Pro, Con has the significant burden of proof: all else being equal, choices should be allowed. Con is arguing that the choice should not be allowed, so he or she must explain why. Contention 1: Allowing parents to choose the sex of their child give the parents more options. There are many scenarios in which parents prefer to have a c...
The following argument for the existence of God is logically valid.

http://www.debate.org/debates/GodSands-proof-of-God-is-not-logically-valid/1/ 1. The Bible makes references to God's existence 2. Anything that God inspires is truth 3. The Bible is inspired by God 4. The Bible is truth 5. Therefore, God must exist....
Ultimate Team War II

This is the Ultimate World Domination Team War. Each debater must assemble a team of five people, and the teams will then fight to the death. Since we cannot have an actual real-life battle, each debater will explain why their team is superior during this debate. For reference, Ultimate Team War I can be found at http://www.debate.org/debate/8456/ . DEFINITIONS Team leader: One of the debaters here, i.e. me and whoever accepts the debate. Team member: One of the five chosen warriors. RUL...
Time Travel is (theoretically) and will eventually be possible

I am Pro (affirming) the statement that Time Travel is possible. I will present the reasoning why. Time is defined as the numerically induced events between point 'a' and point 'c' where 'a' is infinitely in the past and 'c' is infinitely in the future, and point 'b' is the now (which philosophically is described as '.0000...1 (with the '0' recurring infinitely)). Time Travel will be defined as the ability to change the patterns and energies of atoms to look as though as if it were younge...
