No Religion in school should include certain theories.

Let me start off by thanking my opponent for his or her time. Also, let me state this is my first debate so afterwards please leave in comments or send me a messgae how I did. Thank you. I believe that If Religion is not aloud in school this should include certain theories. A couple of these theories are but not limited to (due to me not being able to think of them mainly and this is my first debate.): Theory of Evolution. Big Bang Theory. My arguments for the following are as follo...

The Exclusionary Rule in the United States

Mr_smith
MTGandP

I thank whoever accepts this debate. I started it a few weeks ago but was forced to cancel because I went on vacation. I intend to debate it seriously now. The exclusionary rule is a highly contentious issue in the American judicial system. For those of you who may be unfamiliar with the exclusionary rule, the exclusionary rule is the rule that states that illegally obtained evidence may not be used in a trial, even if it may have led to a defendant's conviction. The rule has been consis...

Eating animal meat purely for pleasure is unethical.

Freeman
MTGandP

From where do rights flow? How are we to determine who has rights? Clearly a claim to rights should have something to do with whether or not an entity can hold preferences and suffer. It would simply be absurd to say that kicking a rock is a violation of its rights because the rock cannot desire anything. A rock is not capable of holding any desires about the world nor can a rock suffer, one would presume. Chickens, cows, and pigs on the other hand can all feel a great deal of pain and also hold...

Fallacy Debate: Marijuana should be smoked regularly by adults in the United States.

MTGandP
mongeese

Inspired by http://www.debate.org/debates/Fallacious-Arguments/1/ Each person must argue the resolution to the best of their ability. But the catch is, each person must use as many logical fallacies as possible. The arguments vote should be given to the person with the best balance between persuasiveness and fallaciousness. To my opponent, please do not argue semantics or attempt to weasel out of the spirit of the debate. Since sources are irrelevant, the sources vote should be defaulted t...

Fallacous Arguments II:Stupidity should be a crime, and violators should be given the death penalty.

MTGandP

Stupidity causes deaths; MTGandP is biased against stupidity; Forrest Gump says "Stupid is as stupid does." Therefore, stupidity should be a crime; If stupidity isn't a crime, WW3 will happen shortly; Being smart is a lost art; Most people don't approve of stupidity; Stupidity is an old tradition that needs to be abolished; I polled myself and I agree with my view, therefore stupidity should be a crime; You cannot prove stupidity is not a crime; Killing and stupidity are closely related, therefo...

Torture is sometimes morally permissible.

Freeman
MTGandP

Torture can be morally justified in rare circumstances. In the case of a ticking time bomb that could destroy a city and potentially kill millions of people the use of coerced interrogation to extract information can be justified. I am not arguing that torture should be made legal. Torture, like theft, could be ethical under certain parameters and still be against the law. Nor am I arguing that a general practice of torture can be made from the scenario I outlined above. What I wish to argue is...

"If you're early, you're on time; if you're on time, you're late," is a logical expression.

studentathletechristian8
MTGandP

I stand in firm negation to the resolution. I would like to begin by defining several key terms: you're- contraction of you are early- before the usual or expected time on time- at the appointed time late- after the usual or expected time logical- capable of reasoning or of using reason in an orderly cogent fashion In this debate, the phrase, "If you're early, you're on time; if you're on time, you're late," refers to the expression commonly used in an attempt to influenc...

Infanticide up until one month of age is morally permissible.

Hunton711

Hunton accepted a proposal to debate this topic, and it sounds like fun. An interesting challenge. ;] Infanticide: The killing of an infant. (http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/infanticide) ======== Whence rights? Who deserves rights? Most human rights stem from the fundamental axiom that people's desires should be respected. For instance, murder is morally wrong because people have a deep desire to live, and that desire should be respected. Theft is wrong because people have a...
