We can help others by not helping at all (2)

Please respond to my comments on the last debate. Most people today say we should help one another and share and such. But a world without suffering does not exist. We must avoid the prevention of suffering as it is an inevitable cycle. 1.The world's attempt to rationalize and stabilize a chaotic world- in its prevention of chaos and suffering, goes on a constant search for what is inherently true in the world, IE the will to truth. (Paul Saurette, Prof Political Theory at John Hopkins Uni...

In a democracy, civil disobedience is an appropriate weapon in the fight for justice

dabigdood
Pluto2493

In this resolution, the meaning of ‘civil disobedience' will be extremely important so I will briefly define it. Civil disobedience is "the active refusal to obey certain laws, demands and commands of a government, or of an occupying power, without resorting to physical violence. Often the law being broken is the one being protested" according to Webster's dictionary. The word ‘Democracy' is another trouble spot. In a pure democracy, the people vote on everything, in the world today and in the f...

Americans throw around the term 'communist' and 'socialist' way too much. There can't be THAT many.

Taken from: http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/ Main Entry: com·mu·nism Function: noun Etymology: French communisme, from commun common Date: 1840 1 a: theory advocating elimination of private property b: a system in which goods are owned in common and are available to all as needed Even the Russians weren't communists. They had and continue to have rubles as currency. When someone on the Internet uses that word, they mean to say 'Stalinist' which is more Soviet and...

People on debate.org need to get their resolutions/arguments straight.

Pluto2493
beem0r

A lot of people on debate.org make their arguments things such as double-negatives. It gets very confusing. For instance, consider this: "Income tax is not unconstitutional." The person who accepted this round thought he was debating that it was constitutional and 'Conceded' the round. Also, take a more simple one: The big bang theroy is not true. People, they give you a choice to be pro or con. On the description of 'Con' here, it says I am against the topic. So are you against the big bang o...

The Playstation 3 is a bad system to own.

Pluto2493
beem0r

I believe the PS3 is a bad system to own. 1) The cost. It costs more to make a PS3 than it sells for. So, they have to make all their money on games. But their games SUCK. Which I'll get to later. The estimated cost before the release of the PS3 was $900, estimating based on the components that go into it. But, Sony released it for $600. Sony loses from $241 to $307 for each console they SELL. 2) Graphics + the CPU. Yes, I will admit that the CPU is better than the Xbox 360 or the Wii. But, th...

The United States should accelerate and fully fund the President's Malaria Initiative by $10 Billion

Pluto2493
Drones200

Malaria is the most acute disease in Sub-Saharan Africa. Currently 500 million people are diagnosed with malaria. Of those people, 1 million people die from it each year. Every day, 3,000 children and 10,000 pregnant women die from it. Because of this, my first argument is Moral Obligation. Moral obligation is not negiotiable. Anyone that says no to this is saying that we should not help dying, suffering people to make our lives a little eaiser. The President's Malaria Initiative of 2005 curr...

Derek Jeter is overrated

Pluto2493
Rousseau

Derek Jeter is one of the most, if not the most, overrated player in baseball. 1. HE HAS NO STATS. He never hits homeruns. His highest ever in his 13 seasons was 24, and constantly gets around 15 a year. The last two years he has gotten 14 and 12. He also never gets RBIs. Last year he got around 73, despite playing 156 games. RBIs really are the most important thing, because thats what makes a team score. He constantly gets around 114 Ks a year, with his highest being 125 in 1997. He is most...

Americans having free health care!

debate777
Pluto2493

We should have free health care because America is obviously the "land of the free" and even though we have other free systems, why hasn't the goverment had the common sense yet to have free health care like England or France? Do people not see that these countries not only have better health, but have a better chance to live than all of us Americans, even the wealthy ones?! It just doesn't make sense to me at all!...
