Wind power is unlikely to be economical within ten years

RoyLatham

Will wind farms soon compete with coal, natural gas, and nuclear power plants as an economically viable means for generating electricity in the United States? Thanks to my opponent for proposing this timely topic. For this debate, wind power is electric power generated from wind energy for delivery over the power grid to users. Wind power is now generated using wind turbines of various kinds, often large propellers, driving electric generators. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wind_farm "Econ...

The News Media Is Biased Against the Positive Aspects of Gun Ownership

DoctorZhiva90

Round 1 is for acceptance, Round 4 is for rebuttals. Since most debates about gun control end up devolving into an argument on the semantics of the 2nd amendment I'd like to engage a fresh perspective. The issue mentioned in the title is key to the reason why so much negative public perception is directed at guns, and thus why many people shudder at the thought of unrestricted gun ownership. The position I am taking is that the media, while not always intentionally, has shown a clear bias in rep...

Animal testing should be banned

Daniyar

Should animal testing exist or not? When animals' protectors say absolutely no, other people, such as scientists say yes. It is hard to decide who is right and who is wrong. Using animals for humans' purposes started from the earliest times. Natalie Kustcher, (2010), explains, experiments on anmals existed even in antique times, Greeks and Roman used them for vivisection. After World War II the amount of medical experiments on animals increased enormously. Animals were used for lots of purposes:...

Job Creation in the US - Tax outsourcing, Put unemployment beneficiaries to work

MrBlues

Our job creation problems is actually fairly simple to solve. We need to tax corporation who outsource their labor... who is going to replace the cheap labor you ask? Easy...The people who collect unemployment need to be put to work. The government pays the unemployed, the corporations pay the government the same wage they paid the overseas worker. (maybe the government will break even, they can use the rest of the money to help the unemployed - skill training, counseling, home assistan...

Resolved: Progressive income taxes are just

lddebater540

First round is for acceptance only. This is part of Tim Spin's debate tournament. A brief note before I begin the round: While the resolution can be evaluated with any number of arguments, if my opponent agrees, I would like to have the debate focus on the clash of two broad moral ideas. This helps filter the arguments so that the cases are more cohesive and fosters debate education by helping debaters link their contentions to broader philosophical principles. If my opponent does not agree,...

The Cosmological Argument

popculturepooka

Thanks to wiploc for agreeing to debate me on this fascinating topic.I will be advancing and defending a version of the cosmological argument for the existence of God. [1] The argument is simply formulated as follows: [2] (1) Every contingent fact has an explanation.(2) There is a contingent fact that includes all other contingent facts.(3) Therefore, there is an explanation of this fact.(4) This explanation must involve a necessary bein...

School Uniforms are a good Idea

ID20111377
LogicalThinker

I support the idea of school uniforms. There are strong reasons for that. I wore school uniform from 7 to 15 years old and I'd never felt that it reflects on my personality or stops me from expressing myself. I knew that it was just a rule and I was never agains the discipline. Discipline lead to good results. So students were more concentrated on their studies than on their clothes and also they shouldn't spent at least 30-40 minutes in front of wardrobe choosing the best outfit for that day. I...

Noah's flood of genesis is a historic event

kohai

DEFINITIONNoah's Flood: An "event" in history that was a world wide flood. This flood covered the entire earth in water. This debate is through a literal reading of Genesis. Historical event: An event that actually happened.BURDEN OF PROOFIt is my burden to show how a world wide flood like Noah would be impossible and historically unlikely. My opponent needs to prove it happened and it occurred.8000 characters1 month voting period3 days to argue
