There should be stricter control over the volumes of TV commercials
We've all been there. We're watching our favourite TV show, or sports game, etc. when a commercial comes on with blaring music. It startles us and more often than not annoys us greatly. I believe that there should be a stronger set of rules that govern the volumes of commercials. I invite my opponent to provide his/her reasons as to why we should not have greater control against this....
It is wrong to kill a person in cold blood for absolutely no reason whatsoever.
If you kill a person, with no real intentions, no gain, no purpose or reason, I state that it is wrong to do so....
Homosexuality is disgusting
Homosexuality denotes the phenomenon whereby members of the same sex engage in sexual relationships with one another. For purposes of clarity it is necessary to draw a distinction between this and the homosexual inclination, which is the attraction of members of the same sex to one another. I will be arguing that homosexuality is disgusting, both morally and physically - and that it is condemned by our Lord and Father (whose existence is not up for debate here). God made Adam and Eve - not...
Capitalism is great
Capitalism has its problems but it's the best economic system. Our society runs fine, no extremes people can do what they want within fundemental laws, it's all good. We are basically fairly free. Economics for me is all about the greater good, with capitalism a few get screwed so evryone can enjoy prosperity, free markets rule!! I basically agree with the current system we have, banks stimulate economic growth, it was thanks to the bank that we were living the high life the past 10 years. The b...
Resolved: The US is just in passing the Patriot Act
I'd like to thank my opponent for accepting my challenge, and I would ask that we follow standard Lincoln-Douglass Debate protocol in this round. I affirm. Resolved: The US is just in passing the Patriot Act. My value for the round is justice, defined as giving each his due. This value must be paramount in the round because: 1) because of the word "just" in the resolution, meaning justice is implicit and must be debated as so. 2) without justice, a well functioning society cannot occur...
Wikileaks

"Media is the nervous system of a democracy. If it's not functioning well, the democracy can't function." -- Jeff Cohen Despite it's criticism, Wikileaks is one of the most responsible tools of journalism in our generation. It's important to understand just how important of a role the media plays in our society. News organizations are responsible for shaping the way we view political candidates, many of whom we will never get to meet or observe directly. They are the ones we elect into off...
Wikileaks

There's been a lot of controversy over Wikileaks: an international media non-profit organization that publishes submissions of otherwise unavailable documents from anonymous news sources and leaks [1]. Recently Wikileaks has come under fire for releasing controversial material, such as classified videos and documents from the U.S. military, and evidence of politicians acting less than scrupulous, even to the point of having enough evidence to possibly warrant resignation for wrong-doing [2]....

Socialism represents Democratic ideals more effectively than Capitalism.

Hello! This is my first debate, and I couldn't find a topic I was really interested in, so I decided to make one. The structure of this debate will be as follows. The first round will be used for definitions and to provide a brief roadmap of arguments. The other 3 rounds will be for actual debate. Please only take on this argument if you intend to be present for all 4 rounds! To clarify the topic, I am referring to the economic and social policies of Socialism and Capitalism, in respect to...
The Supposed "Ground Zero Mosque" should be built.

My stance is presented in the title of the debate. I will present my case in several manners: 1) The "Ground Zero Mosque" is, in fact, not actually a Ground Zero Mosque. 2) The builders of the "Mosque" have a constitutional right to do so, and to prevent them from building it would be unconstitutional. They have the law on their side. 3) It is both Un-American and straight out immoral. The moral components: a) The "rubbing salt on the wound" idea is incorrect and foolish. Furthermo...
