It's Time to Establish a Fashion Police Force

"Buy the best quality you can afford" has always been a worthy maxim. Of course, you pay for what you get and items produced by manufacturers that have a reputation for superior quality and flair, generically described as ‘designer goods', naturally command a premium price. Unfortunately, however, these manufacturer's logos are sometimes prominently displayed on the exterior of their products. By purchasing such an item, the owner is saying: "Look at me. I am vulgar and pretentious and hav...

Blogger Threats

arkwrightman

Is Hal Turner guilty of threatening three federal judges? Yes, I say! This article caught my attention the other day. http://www.twincities.com/ci_13131966?IADID=Search-www.twincities.com-www.twincities.com After some research, I concluded that the case is debatable. Below my initial argument you will find (1) the criminal statute allegedly violated by the defendant, and (2) a statement of the facts (see Complaint and Affidavit). Initial Argument: On June 2, 2009, Turner post...

Cannabis Sativa Enhances my Life

mycull
ReganFan

The argument is whether or not cannabis sativa (marijuana) enhances my health or is detrimental to my overall health. "Health" is pertaining to, but not restricted; mental, physical, social, ect. Consumption of cannabis is not restricted to smoking, but also includes vaporizing, edibles, drinks, ointments, ect. Referencing scientific links, or personal experience reports are not permissible if the link is a study formed by a government. Only studies performed outside government may be refe...

Biblical descriptions of the nature of the Christian God and free will are contradictory.

Clockwork

I'm thinking of running this as a stock Parli case, so I thought I'd give it a test run. The proposition for offer is that the concepts of the nature of God and the mechanics of free will as described in the Bible are contradictory. The existence of God or free will are considered opposing premises and are not up for dispute themselves; rather, Con must prove that the two are logically compatible. God is classically described as an all-knowing, all-powerful, and all-loving being that creat...

A duplicate of you is not you.

Artifice

I'd like to thank my opponent in advance for accepting this debate. May I be proved wrong, or, may teleportation never be a possible, viable technology to be used in the future (ie: may it not be invented). Firstly, I'd like to delineate the parameters of this thought experiment and philosophical conundrum for the purpose of clarifying my position. The premises are simple: A duplicate of you is not you. I am not arguing whether or not teleportation is possible or even feasible as a technol...

Torture is sometimes morally permissible.

Freeman

Torture can be morally justified in rare circumstances. In the case of a ticking time bomb that could destroy a city and potentially kill millions of people the use of coerced interrogation to extract information can be justified. I am not arguing that torture should be made legal. Torture, like theft, could be ethical under certain parameters and still be against the law. Nor am I arguing that a general practice of torture can be made from the scenario I outlined above. What I wish to argue is...

Rationalists should attempt to destroy religion.

Freeman

Most people in the world believe that the creator of the universe wrote or "inspired" one of their books. Unfortunately, there are many books that pretend to divine authorship, and each makes incompatible claims about how we should live. The diversity and profundity of these claims range from banal proclamations on the procedure of rituals to divisive and irreconcilable claims about the pleasures that await martyrs in paradise. Despite the ecumenical efforts of many well-intentioned and loving p...

Cash for crappy cars

burbachrocks

This was going to be a great idea for for about a week but instead they had to at another 2 million dollars to it. Dealers are starting to say that people are so post to take back their cars. I found this on this web site http://uaddit.com/discussions/showthread.php?t=1205 Dealerships give customers the program's $4,500 trade-in rebates up front, then must file paperwork with the federal government to be reimbursed by stimulus dollars. Cosignatory says her dealership has not gotten any o...
