God is an alien

Chronos

God is an alien. We're talking about the Christian god here. I am proposing that god is an alien because god is not a permanent resident of earth and exists outside of earth. These three definitions below help support what i'm talking about. Definition of alien: 1. extraterrestrial being: a form of life assumed to exist outside the Earth or its atmosphere 2. stranger: anyone who does not belong in the environment in which they are found 3. being or from or characteristic of another place...

The people of Texas have the right to secede from the United States of America.

mongeese

Full resolution: Assuming that the majority of Texans support secession, the people of Texas have the right to secede from the United States of America. Definitions shouldn't be necessary, as the context of this debate should be clear by my arguments. 1+. The United States of America's history is obviously in support of the right to secede. The United States of America was formed when thirteen colonies SECEDED from Britain. The Declaration of Independece, one of America's most import...

The user known as 'philosphical' is the same person as the user known as 'GhostWriter.'

Danielle

Philosphical has been a pillar of morality for this entire community. He has never been shy about correcting other people, or putting his foot down in the face of injustice. He has sworn that he would NEVER (!) do something like make another account on DDO, V-bomb, or pretend to be someone he is not. Obviously a man of his stature would not be so hypocritical and condescending to those liars and cheats whom many now consider his peers. However, philosphical has indeed been accused of some harsh...

The Obama Care bill should NOT have been passed

jonpistone2

I would like to say a few words here before starting my opening argument. I respectfully request that only an American Citizen please join this debate on the 'con' side. I have nothing against view points from other countries on health care, but with a bill where American tax dollars are being used, I find it to be a more honest debate between two citizens directly effected. If I could have, I would have voted No to this bill and look forward to debating with someone who would have voted yes. (...

Radiometric Dating is Accurate

RoyLatham

Radiometric dating is the method for establishing the age of objects by measuring the levels of radioisotopes in the sample. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Radiometric_dating One example is carbon dating. Carbon 14 is created by cosmic rays in the upper atmosphere. It decays to nitrogen 14 with a half life of 5730 years. C14 is continually being created and decaying, leading to an equilibrium state in the atmosphere. When the carbon dioxide, containing C14 as well as stable C12 and C13, is taken i...

Human Beings Have a Responsibility To Preserve Biodiversity on Earth

belle

I will leave it up to Pro to decide how they would like to argue this one. To expand on what I mean... "Biodiversity is the variation of life forms within a given ecosystem, biome, or for the entire Earth. Biodiversity is often used as a measure of the health of biological systems. The biodiversity found on Earth today consists of many millions of distinct biological species, which is the product of nearly 3.5 billion years of evolution." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Biodiversity Many a...

I will not break a rule- and this time I mean it!

retarded-flamingo

This was my first topic on DDO, and since I was new to the site I failed miserably. I am going to give it another shot. Here are the rules: ~Rules~ 1. Each round CON must give me three rules, which I must follow. Failure for PRO doing so results in a loss. Failure for CON to give three rules to PRO results in his loss. 2. The rules cannot have anything that will go against the Terms of Service, or will be increasingly tiresome or difficult. I think the voters will decide on where the qu...

It's better for a government to keep its citizens in a state of fear.

Sky_ace25

Hello People, I am arguing for the justification that a government has more to benefit from keeping its citizens in a state of fear. By state of fear it is to be meant a state in which the citizens have a phobia of some foreign entity that would be promoted either through force or propaganda by a sovereign body. My contentions for this are as follows: C1: It ensures loyalty. When people have a fear of something they are more likely to put their protection to a higher power and in th...

The paradox of the stone successfully disproves the Christian God.

mongeese
Danielle

Full resolution: Because of the scenario introduced by the paradox of the stone, the God discussed in the Christian Bible (Yahweh) absolutely cannot exist in reality. The paradox of the stone is outlined here: http://en.wikipedia.org/Omnipotence_paradox In the first round, my opponent will just accept this debate and establish the paradox of the stone, and explain in her own words how the omnipotence paradox disproves the Christian God. In Rounds 2-4, we will debate over the legitimacy...
