| About Me: | I am a retired field artilleryman who is now about to graduate with a degree in computer engineering and a minor in philosophy. I have the privilege of being married to my best friend, Hollie, a nurse, with whom I share our home with our heard of cats. I don't like violence, but I am not a pacifist. I don't like large groups of people, but I love mankind. I am straight, but not narrow. I like: ...people who hope for more out of life than just to die in their sleep. ...people who ask why and actually expect to find an answer. ...people who take life seriously but not themselves. ...people who have opinions but aren't opinionated. |
| Activities: | I am a total whore for movies, music and books. I can't wait til the Hobbit comes out. I like working out (at least enough to combat the ravages of time). I love cooking and laughing. When I have time I like to play the occasional video game. |
| Beliefs: | Flour isn't flour anymore once it becomes bread, so show me where is God if not everywhere. I worked hard to dismantle my belief system and rebuild it without all the excess crap that I had picked up uncritically along the way. It is a work in progress. I don't believe in fate or karma, in the traditional sense. I don't believe in the devil or a god that takes an active part in this universe. I am a libertarian, and am sad to see it hijacked by the tea-party. I am not a member of the rabid anti-government movement. I do believe there is a purpose for government (common defense and general welfare). I just think they need to focus on what they are supposed to do and leave morality to the individual. I am fiscally conservative and socially liberal. |

| Quotes: | The quality of our thoughts is bordered on all sides by our facility with language. Witgenstein It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it. Aristotle My religion is simple. My religion is kindness. Dalai Lama Speak your mind even if your voice shakes. Maggie Kuhn Philosophy is a battle against the bewitchment of our intelligence by means of language. Wittgenstein To be a saint is the exception; to be upright is the rule. Err, falter, sin, but be upright. To commit the least possible sin is the law for man. Sin is a gravitation. Victor Hugo My religion consists of a humble admiration of the illimitable superior spirit who reveals himself in the slight details we are able to perceive with our frail and feeble mind Albert Einstein Death is not an event in life: we do not live to experience death. Wittgenstein |
| Sports Teams: | I think it is silly that people get so worked up over sports, as if they were the ones on the field. It is kind of like how people all act like 'we' have a great military even though 'they' never picked up a rifle and stood a post. Something about wanting to be a part of something larger than themselves, I guess. They should turn off the TV and go be a part of something bigger, rather than engage in childish fantasies. |

Feminism has reached a point where it is now more harmful than good.

A Fools challenge: Feminism has had a positive impact in many aspects but it has reached a point where a fair evaluation of its progress and necessity. Is due. Obviously this is going to run in contrast with the modern status quo and the majority of beliefs. So I don't expect to win your beliefs or opinions but rather judge my ability to proof is true and provide evidence when necessary. Part of the purpose of the argument is to open our minds to take a look at the beliefs we take for grante...

Romney's Work at Bain Capital Helped Companies

I assert that Romney's work at Bain Capital helped the companies they invested in, as a 'net' effect. My burden is to show that companies did better with/after Romney/Bain, and Con's burden is to show that Romney/Bain hurt companies, as a 'net' effect. Please, no arguments over semantics. Any questions can be posed in the comments for clarification.R1 - AcceptanceR2 - Opening ArgumentsR3 - Rebuttals/ArgumentsR4 - Rebuttals/Conclusions ...
