| About Me: | I hope to present debates outside the quotidian norm. I am a devout societal malcontent with a religion and an attitude. I am undergoing a classical Christian education. I work at the local library, which is just amazing, especially compared to my former employment at McDonald's. I love to read and write, and I write and read to love. I mildly support McCain-Palin, mostly because Obama is a untested socialist dark horse with radical, freedom-sapping tendencies. All in all, not a good thing for America. I blog at www.mosingsonlife.blogspot.com |
| Activities: | Cycling, Football, Hiking, Soccer, Bowling. Soccer is the best sport in the universe. |
| Beliefs: | I am generally a orthodox Calvinist Christian, with strong Pro-Life views. I believe in the free market but not in reason being the ultimate power in the universe. I like cats better than dogs, Fords better than Chevrolets, Turner better than Monet, Football more than baseball, and Vaughan Williams and Brahms over Vivaldi and Rachmaninoff. I'm center-right politically, and I would have voted for Fred Thompson first and Mike Huckabee second, should they have attained the nomination. |
| Books: | J.K. Rowling, Tom Clancy, John Grisham, Timothy Zahn, Jonathan Stroud, James Herriot, (many, many more) and recently, Jorge Luis Borges, and Carlos Ruiz Zafon's Shadow of the Wind. |
| Movies: | Patton, Lord of the Rings, Amazing Grace, August Rush, DARK KNIGHT!, Wall-E, The Queen, Adam's Rib, Bringing Up Baby, Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, Tucker, The Thin Man, The Scarlet Pimpernel, the 1985 BBC Pride and Prejudice. |
| Music: | Red Hot Chili Peppers!! to the max, Third Day, Newsboys, Norah Jones, Weezer, Rihanna, White Stripes, Raconteurs, Ozzy, Jeremy Camp, The Beatles, CREAM!, Hendrix, and much more. |
| Quotes: | "It is the creative potential itself in human beings that is the image of God." --Mary Daly "Religion is a disease, but it is a noble disease." --Heraclitus "The world will ever bow to those who hold principle above policy, truth above diplomacy, and right above consistensy." --Macaulay (Speaking about ending a sentence with a proposition) "That is the type of pedantry up with which I will not put." --Sir Winston Spenser Churchill "General Secretary Gorbachev, if you seek peace, if you seek prosperity for the Soviet Union and Eastern Europe, if you seek liberalization: Come here to this gate! Mr. Gorbachev, open this gate! Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall." --Ronald Wilson Reagan, 40th President of the United States of America "Europe was created by history. America was created by philosophy." --Margaret Thatcher |
| Sports Teams: | The Green Bay Packers rock! Yes, I am a died-in-the-wool cheesehead. Minnesota Twins, and the American and British national soccer teams. |
| TV Shows: | We don't own a TV, but I enjoy watching Jeeves and Wooster, Blackadder, A Bit of Fry and Laurie, Yes, Minister and Yes, Prime Minister, Fawlty Towers and Monty Python on YouTube. The thing these shows have in common is that they are BBC productions and thus rarely shown on these shores. Thank heavens for YouTube and British television, I say. |

The War On Terror is justifiable and effective.

The War On Terror involves the military, political, legal and ideological conflict against Islamic terrorism (specifically in reference to the United States' operations) in response to the 9/11 attacks. To argue that it is justifiable, one must prove that it is possible to find reasonable and adequate ground for the overall operation of the War. To argue that it is effective, one must prove that the overall operation of the War has been successful in either destroying or severely curbing the...
Turner's Rain, Steam, and Speed is a truer impressionist painting than Monet's Impression, Sunrise

Claude Monet's famous "Impression, Soleil Levant" (Impression, Sunrise) was so influential to a growing art movement in Paris that the movement was named for it and became Impressionism. This style of art can be defined as the primacy of color and brushstroke over the strict lines of the subject, and the all-importance of light. This makes for a stream-of-consciousness type of painting. Where earlier painters had concentrated on realism, the impressionists sought to portray the bare facts of the...
Prayer should not have been removed from public schools.

It is absolutely correct that prayer should have been removed from public schools as was done by Abington School District v. Schempp. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abington_School_District_v._Schempp The government is forbidden by the first amendment to interfere with religion (without a more primary secular purpose)....
This is a Poetry Battle

This is a poetry duel. Each opponent comes up with a new poem for every round, and then the audience votes on whose poems they believe were better. I'll begin. The Absent is Present A dash here and a dot there, What I see are words. Five-thousand years ago These words made sense to someone. These characters would tell you what day it was And show you the way to the market. They'd race your eyes across the page, Daring you to pronounce them wrong, To ruin the delicacy they held.....
Cornwall should have a devolved Assembly/Parliament

By Cornwall, I mean the southwest extremity of the United Kingdom, the Duchy of Cornwall. It is officially part of England, but is actually one of the six "Celtic nations." There was a Cornish language, similar to Welsh and Breton, but this only exists in a reconstructed form. It is, however, not part of England, and thus deserves its own Assembly, as Wales and Scotland have. Even if it remained part of the UK, the Cornish should be spared the indignity of remaining the only Celtic nation still...
