Why change the word "marriage"s meaning?

Lourencosmind
Stephen_Hawkins

I feel that legalizing gay marriage is just a provocation to the Church. Knowing that the Church created marriage, and that it opposes homosexuals, in my view it is extremely troubling an homosexual wanting to marry another man. If I were an homosexual I wouldn't want to adopt a custome created and practiced by an institution that hates me. Whenever I see homosexuals rioting in favour of same-sex marriage, the idea that they don't feel belonged in our society always crosses my mind. Why won't th...

This House Believes that the Social Contract is a viable political theory

Stephen_Hawkins
YYW

The debate is as simple as it stands. My opponent should spell out the social contract theory in his first round (instead of using it solely for acceptance). The social contract I refer to is the one used in political philosophy - the concept of the social contract as a form of legitimizing the state. I look forward to whoever accepts this debate for a rigorous competition. Note the debate has a smaller character limit than most - 4000 characters maximum. Moreover,...

Voluntaryism is correct.

GregVCross
Stephen_Hawkins

Here is the wikipedia description of it, which I agree with completely. My position is that wide-spread adoption of Voluntaryism would makes society function more efficiently and increase average, median, and net welfare. Voluntaryism (or sometimes voluntarism), is a libertarian philosophy which holds that all forms of human association should be voluntary.[1] The principle most frequently used to support voluntaryism is the non-aggression principle (NAP). It is closely associated with, and o...

This house believes ethical egoism is false

Stephen_Hawkins
YYW

The rules of this debate are rather straight forward:1) There is to be no use of separation of arguments through subheadings or headings, or any technique other than basic essay writing (that is, paragraph-by-paragraph). 2) The definition of ethical egoism is roughly that moral agents value only their self-interest. This definition may be contested, but massive departure from its meaning counts as a forfeit of the debate.3) 4,000 characters, first round for acceptance, second round f...

Micro-Evolution will not undergo Macro-Evolution

radz
Stephen_Hawkins

Debate IntroductionIt is said that Microevolution ( i.e. The first phase of biological evolution) will inevitably undergo macroevolution ( i.e. Speciation of an organism dramatically results into a completely different specie than its ancestor) as time goes by.I admit that this is scientifically an educated guess (i.e. hypothesis) and hence, it's probably the correct natural explanation of the origin of all current life forms in our natural and physicalworld. But there is an alternative expl...
