Bush Lied, People Died?

Watchman81

In this debate, I am arguing that President Bush did NOT lie in order to justify the United State's invasion of Iraq. Whether or not the United State's invasion of Iraq was justifiable or not is irrelevant to this debate. I am arguing against the popular belief that Bush used deception in order to justify the US' invasion of Iraq. The reason we went to war was because President Bush as well as many others sincerely believed Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction. Not only that, Saddam...

There is no logical paradox or contradiction in the Christian conception of God.

CiceroThomas
Tatarize

Thank you in advance to anyone who accepts this debate. Philosophers, theologians, scientists and many others have debated the topic of the christian conception of God and apparent logical contradictions contain therein for more than a millenium. My proposition in this debate is that there is no apparent paradox or contradiction in the christian conception of God that cannot be logically resolved in such a way that allows for His existence. I am not attempting to prove undeniably that God...

Psychological Egoism is an Inconclusive Empirical Doctrine.

TheSkeptic

If I remember correctly, this is my first debate with L-M. SUH-WEET. Onto the debate: [Definition - Psychological Egoism] http://plato.stanford.edu/entries/egoism/ 1. Claims that each person has but one ultimate aim: her own welfare. ~I find the Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy's definition of Psychological Egoism (PE) to be quite accurate and with minimum hope of semantics. Basically, it states that every conscious act a person does is in the sake for their own welfare. [Defini...

Should Light Yagami have killed criminals differently than the way he did in the manga/anime?

cheftoniFTW

I personally think that Light Yagami was doing the right thing, but he did it the wrong way. (i.e. boasting while killing people, not caring if anybody caught him.) for example, during the search of who was Kira, L suspected it was a student due to the gaps between killings. When Light's father entered the research into his police files, Light noticed that L suspected a student, therefore, changed his killing gaps 1 hour per heart attack. Which is what I believe to be a stupid move. He simply...

Gay Marriage Should Be Legal in the United States

JustCallMeTarzan

This debate was issued to InquireTruth... twice. He let it expire both times. Now I open it up to the public to defend his position because he apparently will not do so. *************************************************** The proposition on offer is that Gay Marriage should be legal in the United States. For the purposes of debate, "Gay Marriage" will be held to mean marriage between two individuals of the same sex. This definition arises from two segments of relevant law common to most...

Religion should be taught in schools.

CiceroThomas

This is my first debate on this site, so here goes... The topic is: that the study of religions should be a part of all schools' curriculum. In this proposition i am not advocating any form of religious indoctrination be including in public or private education. though religious myself i am fundamentally opposed to indoctrination of youth into any religion, including my own. I propose that the study of religions, particularly but not limited to the major world religions, should be inc...

Exodus 7-12(the Egyptian Plagues) demolishes the Christian Doctrine of Free Will

Blessed-Cheese-Maker

I argue that God's interaction with Pharaoh in the Exodus story, specifically relating to the Plagues and Pharaoh's reaction to them negates the commonly accepted Christian doctrine of Free Will. God intentionally hardened Pharaoh's heart negating his free will and creating cause for all humans to question the free will doctrine. (As a simultaneous sidebar debate I will be attempting to prove that God's action towards Pharaoh, was immoral as it was designed to result in the death of innoc...

The pen is mightier than the sword

I am unsure weather I'm for or against this old proverb "the pen is mightier than the sword" In this debate, I will argue for it, claiming that it is true, and doing everything in my power to advance it. I ask for a well educated, worthy opponent, for I will do everything in my power to win this debate. I withhold my arguments to next round....

Get rid of pennies

SuperPerfundo

Resolved: The US government should stop minting the Jefferson nickel and assign the Lincoln penny a five cent value in its place. Due to the rising, and risen, costs of metal, minting change is more expensive than ever. A Jefferson nickel costs almost 8 cents to mint and the Lincoln penny about 1.25 cents. Normally, the government makes profit by minting money (seigniorage), paying production cost and recieving face value. But, in the case of nickels and pennies, the government lost almost...
