| About Me: | I actually live in the US, but my location is a secret. Sorry cyberstalkers. I enjoy seafood. I enjoy mutton. I enjoy beef. I do not enjoy carrots. I do not enjoy apples. I do not enjoy onions. I enjoy the internets. I do not enjoy work. I enjoy debate. I do not enjoy the Sept-Oct 2009 LD topic. I enjoy math. I do not enjoy history. I enjoy reading. I do not enjoy writing about myself. I make bad jokes. Often. Expect more as I become more socially open with DDO. A lot more. |
| Activities: | Forensics, Debate, Tennis, Fencing, Interact (community service), Scouts (although, as an Atheist I technically cannot participate), Piano (how mundane). |
| Beliefs: | People are by nature irrational. You can make the most eloquent arguments against somebody's beliefs, but they will only change their opinion if they wanted to change their opinion to begin with. After doing some research, I think that panarchy is the best system for the world, idealistically. Pragmatics beg to differ. Minarchy is also valuable, only to an extent. Government should be a smooth, efficient machine, not a clunking behemoth. I am completely uneducated on a variety of social issues (just check out my stance on the BIG ones) and would really appreciate some education =). |
| Books: | Most anything. Asimov ftw. Vonnegut, not so much. I do the mainstream pulp fiction, though science fiction and fantasy are cool with me. |
| Movies: | Everyone's favorites. If lots of people like it, I probably do. Exceptions: Twilight, Harry Potter 2-5. 6 was awesome. |
| Music: | LP, DCFC, MCR, PAtD, Cp, GC, GD, Nb (earlier stuff), OR, TPS, Japanese stuff. I'm fairly mainstream. Rock/Alternative/Some (rare) rap. |
| Quotes: | "When you buy a toaster, if it explodes in your face, there's a law that says, you know, your toasters need to be safe"-Barack Obama |
| Sports Teams: | Completely sports illiterate. Yeah. Somehow, I still won the last March Madness bracket by picking people based on how awesome their names were. Gonzaga ftw!. |
| TV Shows: | House, Scrubs, Mythbusters, One Way Out (hilarious - a great watch if for nothing else than watching someone with a British accent beat the crap out of himself), SNL. |

Public High School Students and Exit Exams

To clarify, this is the LD debate topic for September and October of 2009. Both debaters shall be debating "resolved: public high school students in the United States ought not be required to pass standardized exit exams to graduate." This debate shall follow a slightly altered LD format. R1 is for introductions and no arguments. In R2-4, both sides will present cases, starting with Neg. The structure should follow: R1: Introductions R2: NC; AC/AR R3: NR; 2AR R4: 2NR; 3AR Both sides...
One could logically follow a majority of these guidelines

Resolved: that of the 8 guidelines for safety found here: http://www.theonion.com/content/node/27460 one could logically justify adhering to a majority (5+) of these with the intent of preserving health and safety. Do not continue on without reading the above link. It won't take more than 1 minute. RULES 1. I do not want semantics in regards to the resolution. If I have poorly laid out what this debate is to be about, address it in 'comments' or briefly in your argument. I do not want a...
Omnipotency is possible

Omnipotent, having unlimited power or authority. http://www.answers.com/omnipotent I interpret this as being able to do everything, I don't want to debate the definition, but if you have a problem with it, mention it in the first round. I say omnipotency is impossible, you say it does. It's as simple as that, let's do this....
