| About Me: | I love science and philosophy, and am mainly interested in biology and anthropology. I enjoy debating theists, deists, polytheists, spiritualists, etc. etc. (especially creationists, they are so much fun!) |
| Beliefs: | I am a philosophical naturalist, in other words, I believe there is a natural explanation for everything. I hold no religious or "spiritual" beliefs, however I do believe that humans are generally good, and we should derive our morals from rational thought and empathy rather than from 1000 year old mistranslations that advocate the murder of children. |
| Books: | Pretty much anything written by Tolkien, A Song Of Ice And Fire by George.R.R.Martin, Paul Stewart's kids books, Malcolm Gladwell's excellent books, Dawkins' books on religion and evolution, I could go on and on and on... |
| Movies: | LOTR, Labrinth, anything that makes me feel like a 7 year old. |
| Music: | The old cliche, I listen to "all types of music" although I mostly listen to folk music as it makes me feel like i'm in a big field. |
| Quotes: | "Extraordinary claims require extraordinary proof" - The Hitch "What can be asserted without evidence can be dissmissed without evidence" - Another Hitch line there. "No amount of belief makes something a fact" - Neil Degrasse-Tyson (I think?) |

Exams are an unfair way of assessing the abilities of students in GCSEs

First round is for acceptance, this will be a short debate as I can't be arsed to drag it out for longer than a week.I will be arguing from the position that GCSE students are being dealt a poor hand by exam boards, as exams are an unfair way of assessing a student's knowledge and ability regarding any particular subject, and other methods of assessment should be used in addition to written exams. For those of you who live outside the UK, GCSEs are the qualification received by high school studen...
The argument from morality is not a valid argument for the existence of (a) god(s)

I will be arguing from the position that the argument from morality, as used frequently by theists like William Lane Craig, is not a valid argument. The first round is for acceptance, but my opponent may post arguments if they so wish....

The God Hypothesis is the best scientific explanation for the origins of existence

First Round is for acceptance of this only Understand that my approach is suppose to be scienctific or of a scientist not a philosopher like William Lane Craig and other debaters attempt to do. So its a little bit different with only one exception, I won't be using scientific terms. I expect you to debate and argue under this context: I am arguing that the God Hypothesis indeed qualifies as a scientific explanation as well as the best one for several reasons. It is a rationally conceived h...
Faith schools are immoral, children should not be indoctrinated.

First round is for acceptance. I propose that so called "faith schools" are wrong, and should be outlawed. I believe that religion belongs in RS lessons, not ingrained in the curriculum of a school, and I would like to see some convincing arguments that oppose my views. No rules, just don't let this turn into a flame war esque exchange....
