I am arguing that 0.999999999... (going on forever) is equal to 1. My opponent is arguing against it. First round is for acceptance.

There is a simple test to decide if two numbers are equal.
If A=B then A-B=0
1 - 0.9999999.... = 0.00000000...
The ... means repeating
In other words if there is no difference between two numbers, they are the same number.

Here is a second proof:
1/3 = 0.333333333...
0.3333333333... X 3 = 0.999999999...
And 1/3 X 3 = 1
Therefore 0.9999999999... = 1

Reasons for voting decision: ok .999 could be equal to one based on the 1/3 theory. That's a pretty convincing argument.
