14 year olds should be sent to adult prisons if they are convicted of first degree murder. They have convicted a crime like an adult, so they should be punished with them. It is the law to send them to adult prison. It is also the law to not give them the death penalty which I agree with. I also believe they should be granted parole and not a full life sentence. Adult prison will give them time in the real world, something they might be sheltered from if they have committed first degree murder at the age of 14. They need to taste reality, even if it is tough to swallow at such a young age. All people deserve second chances, so when the justice system feels he is rehabilitated, he will be let go.
14 year olds who are convicted of 1st degree should not be sentenced to adult prison. Although they may have committed an "adult crime" they are not mentally capable of understanding their actions. Being sentenced to adult prison may often result in both physical and sexual abuse from other inmates. 13 and 14 year olds lack maturity and have an undeveloped sense of responsibility. Sending 14 year olds to adult prison where they are 5 times more likely to be sexually abused would be unfair and create more problems for the juvenile who should be being rehabilitated and given a second chance at life.
