vi_spex, a variable "x" is not always equal to a single number, it can be any number depending on the context. That's what differentiates variables from constants. Variables change, constants don't.

In a mathematical context, "i" is understood to be the square root of -1, in which case the answer is no, 2+2 does not equal 4i.
