it is very true that the wd will come to an end and so many proofs for the theory have been given already.. a major proof is the mayan calendar which proofs that the world will come to an end..and why not..people have grown so selfish, their bad deeds have gone to infinity.people are killing each other.the people themselves will be the for the end of human civilization.

Let's start here:

"The end of the Mayan Great Cycle after the completion of the 12th Bak'tum. It's either the 21st or 23rd December, 2012 depending on whether you use the 584,285 or 584,283 correlation coefficient."

"Atlantis sank on August 12, 3113 BC, thus marking the end of the Fourth World and the beginning of the Fifth. The Sixth World began on December 12, 2011 AD, and will end, according to the Mayan calendar, on April 4, 7137 AD."

"The canonical dates (according to Ehran the Scribe) on the ends of the Fourth, Fifth, and Sixth worlds are August 12, 3113 BCE (the fall of Atlantis), December 24, 2011 CE (the appearance of Ryumyo)..."

My point?

In addition to 12/21/2012, other speculations about the date of the world's end is in question. For instance, the quotes above illustrate how different people have heard/made different predictions about doom's day, including 12/23,2012, 12/12/2012, and 12/24/2012. If scholars or even your every day man can't agree on a date, then clearly we're not 'understanding' the Mayan calendar fully or as well as we think we do. Further, my opponent has not proven that out of all of those dates in question, that 12/21/2012 is the most likely to be right. If by some chance she succeeds at accomplishing this feat, we'll move onto other arguments about this tall-tale.

On that note, the Mayans came before Christ and thus the notion that the world would end 2021 years AD is kind of impossible. Come on, Pro. Give me a challenge here...

I forgot to post in my last round that Con has acknowledged a typo within her debate -- she intended to be Pro, and I took on this debate as CON after her elaboration of her advocacy for Pro. Just ask her...

Anyway, unfortunately Pro/Con - whatever she is - has not made any arguments in this debate. I have offered several reasons why you should vote for me. And here's more: In truth, the Mayan prophecies barely talk about this supposed catastrophic apocolypse. Additionally, while the world might 'end' on that day, the so-called prophecy also talks about a new beginning. If that were the case, it would not be the world's last day as the resolution implies. My opponent has offered no other argument in its defense.

Thank you.

if you search any database (mine is actually an online library database) there are 13 different areas of the world getting ready for 12/12/12. also there is conformation of a meteor the size of Pluto hitting the earth around that date ... true that doesn't mean that the world will end on that exact date. as we can all agree man kind is not perfect so how can our guesses on when we will perish be perfect. but sometime around that date the world as we know it will change. not specifically meaning we will die but an Apocalypse will happen

The Mayans did not predict the end of the world in any way. This is the date in which their calander merely ends. It is also important to note that this date is the end of their zodiac-esk cycle. With these facts it seems clear that they were not trying to predict anything. It would be more reasonable to interpret that they did not see any need to continue adding cycles that far into the future.

My vote goes Pro for obvious reasons.

Actually, the Aztecs predicted something right... when they thought their god would return vengefully, on that exact day Cortes came and kicked their *bleep* :D.

So, who knows, maybe the Mayans get something right too.... won't be an apocalypse, maybe... the United States invades Mexico after Mexico nationalizes 10,000 things because Hugo Chavez sent in his goons to take over? :D

So the date-time will be: 2021-12-21 and for symmetry the time will be: 12:21 and 12 seconds.
Will that be Greenwich Mean Time or Wellington time?
The latter I guess (+12 hours)
A slight inconsistency with respect to the century and year - or perhaps the world will end at 02 seconds?

Interesting that you as an Indian have chosen to follow Western date-time for this prediction. Is there a coincidence in the Mayan calendar as well.

I'm sure you're quite right that people themselves will be the for the end of human civilisation.
Not sure about the date though.
