The 'Problem of Evil' never succeeds (Attempt 1)

Ryft
TheSkeptic

==== FULL RESOLUTION ==== There are literally no versions of the Problem of Evil argument that succeed at proving the non-existence of God. ==== CONTENTION ==== From versions of the logical Problem of Evil to its evidential varieties, including all forms of the Problem of Suffering, not a single one of these arguments ever succeed at proving the non-existence of God. That is the position I am affirming and defending. Although some of them expose powerful demands for a coherent and consi...

Life has no meaning.

ThebigB
Puck

First to start I offer the following definitions: Life:The animate existence or period of animate existence of an individual.[1]Next the idea of nihilism The idea that life has no meaning. Definition meaning:What is intended to be, or actually is, expressed or indicated; signification; import.[2] "A man finds himself, to his great astonishment, suddenly existing, after thousands and thousands of years of non-existence. He lives for a little while and then again comes an equally long period when...

Christians Being attacked

Ruac
brian_eggleston

I saw some of your debates, and I must say that I am quite offended. Especially the article "Children's welfare should take legal priority over their parents' freedom of religion" You go on and on about how Christians are in power and that they are the main religion of the USA. This is bunch of propaganda against Christians everywhere. Every day, Christians are ridiculously accused of being 'evil' and 'cultists by people like you. Why, in Detroit, where some of my cousins live, there is a bunch...

Woman's Choice to "House" her Unborn.

dollydo
J.Kenyon

A woman's body is her own. Yes, there are times that her body has and can be used as a means to an end, but it should be her ultimate choice to decide whether or not that "means to an end" be the use of her body to produce a child. In China, for example, with the population rates soaring, the One Child Policy enforced laws that prevented women from having more than one child per family. Women that were expectant with their second child were forced into abortions or in some instances made to pay...

"It is no more likely that the tenth marble will be blue than it is that it will be red."

mongeese
Vi_Veri

This is a quote from a packet over Francis Bacon. The full situation is that a man draws nine blue marbles out of a bag of ten. According to the packet, Bacon's contemporaries claimed that the tenth marble is just as likely to be red as it is likely to be blue. I am against this notion. The man has no idea how he obtained this bag. This scenario allows for speculation, but no speculations may be confirmed within the given scenario. As for definitions, blue and red are two very different...

The marriage of Homosexuals should be legal

BenJamyn
Itsallovernow

I'll start by saying that I love to debate this topic. I'd also like to throw in that I want to debate this topic specifically using terms that are by no means derogatory. Be mature about the topic or I'll choose not to debate it. With that let the debate begin....

Dualism is true.

popculturepooka
TheSkeptic

Recently, TheSkeptic and I got into a friendly discussion about substance dualism (which can hereby referred to as just "dualism") and we mutually decided to debate this issue. But in this debate I seek to defend and/or establish not a particular version of dualism (as there are many, many kinds even within substance dualism itself), just that "mere" dualism is true. I will be taking the Pro side in that I believe that dualism is true and that there are good reasons to believe dualism is...

Homosexuals should not be allowed in the military, even under the Don't Ask Don't Tell Policy

Itsallovernow
Reas0n

First, allow me to say that if anyone dares make rediculous inferrances other than what is plainly written, I will not debate this at all. On a note: I am a homosexual and am enlisting next year. This is largerly in referance to (http://www.debate.org/debate/10975/). Negate the resolution directly, please. Allow us to begin......

We Should Have Stricter Gun Control

AwesomePossum
TheSkeptic

This debate will cover whether or not we should have stricter gun control. For the first round, we will set up the perimeters and definitions. We should not have arguments/points/etc. in the first round, only introductions. From the second round onwards, we shall flesh out our arguments. Gun control would be considered as how easy it is to attain guns (meaning eligibility and sales), how strict the regulation on concealed weapons is, and how much power our government should have in terms of r...

Children's welfare should take legal priority over their parents' freedom of religion

brian_eggleston
theatresabs09

Imagine you are a small child and as a special treat for your birthday your mummy and daddy take you to the zoo to see all the lovely animals locked up in their dirty, cramped cages. You are having a wonderful time there and you have laughed at the funny little monkeys and gasped at the great big elephants and you have even been allowed to stroke the bunny rabbits. Then your mummy asks you if you would like to see the lions and you reply that you would. So, you all set off in the direction of...
