The user known as Danielle used dishonest tactics in her same-sex parenting debate.

MouthWash
Danielle

Many people on this site know about me and Danielle's same-sex parenting debate, in which she won by a large margin and I accused her of using dishonest arguments (lawyering, strawmen, etc) in order to gain victory. In case you haven't, here's the link: [http://debate.org/debates/Homosexual-couples-can-raise-children-just-as-well-as-heterosexual-couples./1/]I...

The fat should be made to buy two seats on planes

brian_eggleston
thisoneguy

I was involved in a rather unpleasant incident on a British Airways flight from Aberdeen to Heathrow recently. (1) The aircraft was an Airbus A319 with a single economy (coach) class cabin which was fitted with seats with a width of 17.0" (2) and the aisle seat I was allocated was located next to a grossly overweight gentleman, whose considerable girth was overflowing onto my seat, thus preventing me from putting the armrest down or fastening my seatbelt. I therefore challenged the man and here...

Using a time machine to go back and kill Hitler would be a bad idea.

Kinesis
Maikuru

I thank my opponent for the chance to debate. My opponent may not argue from semantics, as it is clear what the resolution states, although an exception may be made if he/she comes up with a particularly interesting objection to the resolution. Firstly, an argument against the viability of time travel itself; -- The Classic Paradox -- First, imagine time travel were made possible, and somebody travels back in time in order to meet their grandfather, whom they never knew. Now, say that...

Solarman1969 refuses to debate me because he knows he can't win

rwebberc
Solarman1969

First off, I would like clarify what I mean by "win". Obviously, when Solarman takes up a debate, he knows he's generally not going to win the vote because of his far right wing points of view. However, he does seem to take some sort of satisfaction in finding opponents who don't know how to deal with his belligerence or who provide relatively weak arguments. I have debated Solarman in the past, and instead of responding to his personal attacks, I took his arguments at face value. I responded wi...

This debate will not result in a tie

sdcharger
solo

Dear Ladies and Gentlemen, I am for the motion that this debate will not end in a tie. As a matter of fact, this debate will not end at all, assuming the the voting period is indefinite. Let us take an example. Say at a certain time there is a tie. However, the opposition is arguing that there will be a tie, so he is right. If he is right, then there is no tie. ARGUE THAT!!! thank you...

Drawing Debate

Mikal
MoralityProfessor

This is a Drawing Debate. My fiance and I have been trying to find a way to spend time together on the site. She loves to draw and is pretty freaking good at it, so I came up with the idea of a drawing debate. She shall participate in this herself. Each round a person shall submit a drawing. It has to be sketched with pencil or pen. At the bottom of the Drawing you are to sign your DDO username or at least something noticeable where people will know you ac...

Sex is unhealthy and immoral. People who engage in random and emotionless sex are poisoning the world by spreading disease and sins of the flesh. God will smite thee who has sex! I look forward to debating an opponent who agrees....

The U.S. economy is a fraud based on the Federal Reserve System of fiat money and legal-tender laws.

clsmooth
Nate

Virtually every transaction that takes place in the United States involves the exchange of goods or services for U.S. dollars, which, in reality, are "Federal Reserve Notes" (just check your currency). Where do these Federal Reserve Notes (FRNs) come from? Few of us ever stop to ask. The answer is: debt. When you deposit $100 in the bank, your bank may lend $90 of it, even though you can come back and claim your full $100 at any time. When someone borrows $90 from your bank and takes the chec...

The United States Federal Government should help to modernize third-world countries.

Danielle
PublicForumG-d

"Sometimes we must interfere. When human lives are endangered, when human dignity is in jeopardy, national borders and sensitivities become irrelevant." -- Elie Wiesel Clarification: A common misconception regarding third-world countries is that "the poverty of the developing nations can be attributed to their failure to innovate, resulting in technological and therefore economic deficit" [1]. That is simply untrue. Western civilizations were able to expand and modernize through our coloni...
