The United States ought to submit to the jurisdiction of an international court designed to prosecut
I affirm the resolution resolved: The United States ought to submit to the jurisdiction of an international court designed to prosecute crimes against humanity. Now some definitions: Webster-dictionary defines ought as: to be bound in duty or by moral obligation. Merriam-Webster defines to submit as: to yield oneself to the authority or will of another. The term crimes against humanity has come to mean anything atrocious committed on a large scale. This is not, however, the original meanin...
Weapons not made for hunting should be outlawed for civilian use

On November 5, 2009, Nidal Malik Hasan opened fire at Fort Hood Soldier Readiness center, killing 13 people and wounding 30 others. He used an FN Five-seveN semi-automatic pistol, which, according to wikipedia, is used by SWAT teams because of their effectiveness against body armor. Why would any civilian need that? Now, Mr. Hasan did happen to be in the military, but he did not receive his gun from the military. He bought it legally at a civilian gun store. What that means is that any one of us...
DeathPenalty
I am against the use of the death penalty in the US court system. My main reasoning behind this political position is the high cost required of tax payers to keep an inmate in jail on death row. The average cost to keep a prisoner in jail on death row for one year is $44,000. This amount of money increases every year that the prisoner is in the prison system, which adds up over time for taxpayers....

The Death Penalty
In the year 1993 alone, over 18,000 people were arrested for murder in the United States. Yet, in the past twenty years, there have been less than 300 executions. Today there are over 2,500 murderers on "death row", but less than fifty of them will be executed this year. That's 15,000 to 20,000 murders per year with less than fifty executions! Although eighty percent of Americans still favor the death penalty, many are beginning to have second thoughts as the liberal establishment marches ahead...
This House Would Condem American Actions During The Cold War

Before I begin, I would like to thank my prospective opponent for engaging in this debate and I hope that their Cold War knowledge is up-to-date. I would first like to begin by defining 'this house' as the United Nations and 'condemn' as a symbolic resolution that would act a guideline for future foreign policy for all nations. During this debate I will focus on, although will not be limited to, the following failures; --The Domino Theory and subsequent policy of Containment. (Defined h...
If we can't enact lobbying reform let's at least let consumer groups hold public office

This one is so easy I would have to try hard to lose it. Someday people will study the Age of Corruption when individuals could be elected to public office and accept bribes at will, and this being common knowledge and nothing being done about it. Corporations act as people, and have all the rights people have, except holding public office, which in fact it may be possible under current law if a corporation can meet age and residency requirements in order to to register to vote. Those junk...
