Personal pictures as avatars should be disallowed on debate.org.

If this site is about ideas, then there is no need for faces. What a person looks like has absolutely no bearing on the validity of a point so why introduce that data? Personal photos could easily be faked. They pose a distraction. They encourage prejudice and stereotyping. They reduce personal security. They serve no relevant purpose. They encourage classism. They encourage sexism....
Video Debates should be allowed on debate.org

Debate.org version 3 will more likely than not be up and running by the time this debate concludes.

It is within my belief that debate.org version 3 will be up and running by the time this debate concludes. To define what I mean by this, I'm saying that the chances of debate.org version 3 being accessible before or at the time this debate concludes are at least 51%. Just to insure that this won't be a wait fest, I'll go ahead and provide a contention. For now, my one and only contention shall be that the webmaster stated that version 3 would be up by the end of July. Given that it is lon...
A revolution by robots alone which overthrows the government is impossible.

- Robot - A machine that resembles a human and does mechanical, routine tasks on command with artificial intelligence. - Revolution - an overthrow or repudiation and the thorough replacement of an established government or political system by the people governed. - Impossible - unable to be done, performed, effected, etc. A few ground rules: 1.Both sides must produce a minimum of 2 points on why they think 'A revolution by robots alone which overthrows the government is impossible'. Fail...
A debate on a certain controversy

Okay, the exact resolution is "Patrick_Henry is being childish and counterproductive in his actions against a certain group on debate.org" This group is of course the so-called "voting block" that actually isn't a voting block. The debate in which he does this is here:http://www.debate.org/debate/5454/ Don't forget to look at the comments. He commits libel, and calls this group a voting block, and its members "A literal band of teenagers, foolishly set in the political views without any l...
People voting on their personal opinions rather than debate content.

After reviewing some debates, one person seems to always presented the best information, the most facts/figures, and proper grammar while the other person was the opposite. When the voting comes in, the person with the more "popular" viewpoint tends to win. My argument is that the question is "Who won the debate" not "Which side of the issue do you agree with". Is winning a debate more than saying what is popular? I am getting the feeling that on this site, the popular view points will almost al...
Conspiracy II: September 11, 2001

The proposition on offer is that the events of September 11, 2001 were orchestrated actions perpetrated by the United States Government. Caveats: * Ignorance and stupid decisions are not evidence of conspiracy. * "Willful Ignorance" must be demonstrated to be part of a conspiracy (i.e. Rice's non-meeting a week before). * Facts about collapse rates, debris clouds, etc... must be backed up by both sides with math, not conjecture. * This debate is limited to WTC 1 & 2. ***************...
Guys thinking they can do things better than girls

First of all guys aren't any better than girls are! We can do sports just as well as guys. We may not always have as much muscle but we can be faster and smaller so better at dodging. Girls aren't helpless!...
Alternative energy methods should be proposed with total costs

For this debate, "alternative energy" means a fuel, method, or apparatus designed to reduce or eliminate consumption of traditional fossil fuels as they are now employed. http://www.thefreedictionary.com/alternative+energy "Total costs" includes all the costs associated with producing, shipping, storing, and using the alternative energy. Costs include dollar costs and environmental impact. Dollar costs include capital costs, indirect induced costs, and operating costs. The resolution is large...
A Tournament System on debate.org should be implemented.

First of all, I would just like to point out that this is more of an attempt to get the word out than actually debating an issue. I would not mind if it stayed in debate challenges for a long time because I would still be getting the word out. However, if someone is to challenge me, I would consider the voting after the two rounds as being if you think it would be a good idea and who convinced you of that. I would appreciate comments on the bottom of the debate. Now... to prove why I think this...
