Personal pictures as avatars should be disallowed on debate.org.

bsergent
artC

If this site is about ideas, then there is no need for faces. What a person looks like has absolutely no bearing on the validity of a point so why introduce that data? Personal photos could easily be faked. They pose a distraction. They encourage prejudice and stereotyping. They reduce personal security. They serve no relevant purpose. They encourage classism. They encourage sexism....

Debate.org version 3 will more likely than not be up and running by the time this debate concludes.

Logical-Master
oboeman

It is within my belief that debate.org version 3 will be up and running by the time this debate concludes. To define what I mean by this, I'm saying that the chances of debate.org version 3 being accessible before or at the time this debate concludes are at least 51%. Just to insure that this won't be a wait fest, I'll go ahead and provide a contention. For now, my one and only contention shall be that the webmaster stated that version 3 would be up by the end of July. Given that it is lon...

I-am-a-panda
jjmd280

- Robot - A machine that resembles a human and does mechanical, routine tasks on command with artificial intelligence. - Revolution - an overthrow or repudiation and the thorough replacement of an established government or political system by the people governed. - Impossible - unable to be done, performed, effected, etc. A few ground rules: 1.Both sides must produce a minimum of 2 points on why they think 'A revolution by robots alone which overthrows the government is impossible'. Fail...

Wind power is unlikely to be economical within ten years

RoyLatham
F-16_Fighting_Falcon

Will wind farms soon compete with coal, natural gas, and nuclear power plants as an economically viable means for generating electricity in the United States? Thanks to my opponent for proposing this timely topic. For this debate, wind power is electric power generated from wind energy for delivery over the power grid to users. Wind power is now generated using wind turbines of various kinds, often large propellers, driving electric generators. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wind_farm "Econ...

A debate on a certain controversy

LR4N6FTW4EVA
Patrick_Henry

Okay, the exact resolution is "Patrick_Henry is being childish and counterproductive in his actions against a certain group on debate.org" This group is of course the so-called "voting block" that actually isn't a voting block. The debate in which he does this is here:http://www.debate.org/debate/5454/ Don't forget to look at the comments. He commits libel, and calls this group a voting block, and its members "A literal band of teenagers, foolishly set in the political views without any l...

Be It Resolved That a Non-Mac PC is better than a Mac PC

bigtree
Nails

Salutations to all who are reading this. I have started this debate to discuss a topic I find to be of utmost importance: Be It Resolved That a Non-Mac PC is better than a Mac PC. I am arguing the Pro side and believe that this resolution must most definitely stand. I will first define the terms of the resolution. A PC is defined as a Personal Computing unit, a non-Mac PC is defined as any PC which is not fabricated by Apple Computers Inc, and a Mac PC is defined as any PC which is fabricated...

Teenagers Should Have Unlimited Access to Computers and The Internet

austinyb
bluesteel

My view is that teenagers (13+) should have unlimited, but monitored access to the internet. By monitored, I mean that parents can view activity for anything dangerous/illegal, but beside from that, they are allowed to freely browse. I will let my opponent begin the debate....
