Irish/English state exams are not as trustworthy as continuous assessment

EqualityMakesaDiffernce
Hayd

Irish and English Statements should not be the official judgement of an Individual's Intelligence. It should be based on a continuous assessment. This would Lower Stress on an individual and have mental and physical benefits (Question Based on A levels and Jc/lc)...

The Purpose of School is Not to Learn

Konsto
cantstumpthetrump

The purpose of school is not to learn. The purpose of school is to see how well students can show patience, obedience and the willingness to work, so that colleges can pick out the people that are going to work hard. If you ask any college senior, they will have completely fotgotten everything they learned throughout school. If you ask any adult about what they learned in school, they barely remember. That is why even some adults suffer when asked to help th...

All schools shouldn't have uniforms

LuckyGoHappy
Nerva

Uniforms waste money, there was only ONE shop which sold uniforms for my school. The ties, I kid you not, cost 10 pounds! That's robbery! Also, due to my First School's strict uniform, there was this kid who was a Sikh, for those who don't know, Sikhism is against having their hair cut. EVER. Because he never cut his hair, his fringe covered his face. The school forced him to have his hair cut! Children should also be allowed to express themselves so it's easier to find friends with simil...

Should compulsory education be abolished.

Elector
ContraDictator

Firstly, Compulsory education kills dreams. A child who wants to do something different but has his life sealed by the government has all his dreams killed. Compulsory education teaches children a neutral opinion, brainwashing them in process, not letting them have their own opinion. Secondly, there is no freedom of choice. Everyone has a choice and why don't children. They need to learn to make choices and not just do something just because they are told to. Letting them have a choice is like...

Should schools make homework optional?

TheDeafCreeper
RottingCreepers

I think schools should because some students don't need homework. When I was in school I never did homework, but still passed all my tests. The only bad grades I got were on homework. That is my argument for why schools should make homework optional....

Should schools conduct random drug testing?

123haha
jglass841

Hello, I believe that drug testing in schools should not be allowed to occur. In a national study by the University of Chicago, 76,000 students were surveyed and there was no correlation between the drug use of students that went to schools that conducted drug testing and those that did not. Based on this study and many many more, drug testing is simply not an efficient deterrent. Next, drug testing is inaccurate. Based on several statistics, (that I will name if necessary), drug tests can bri...

Should schools be able to ban certain books?

becboo1010
livyrocks10

Schools should NOT be able to ban books. Banning books goes against our first amendment: freedom of expression. I feel as though librarians and teachers should be able to use common sense and not add certain books to the library/class in the first place, but once the book is there, it should be there for good. Parents should also monitor what their children are reading, but they shouldn't have the power to ban it from everyone. Book banning promotes the idea that one person's opinion is the only...

Open Campus Lunch

JAD13
Mia13

Students should be allowed to leave school for lunch. They should be able to leave school grounds because it gives students a sense of trust and responsibility. For example if a kid were buying lunch at a sandwich shop and had the choice between a bag of Cheetos or a vege sandwich. In this moment he is making a choice if he chooses the healthier option it proves that he is making a responsible choice for his body....

Should smartphones be banned in schools?

xlxzxbxth.x
aT78

My school has a no smartphone policy, and I am strongly against it. I am a 6th grade (or Year 7) living in London and think the case is totally unnecessary. The only mobile phones we can bring to school are Nokia bricks, which cannot have a camera or access to the internet. I think this is plain stupid. My school is a local school, (not in the middle of the city) and we surely do not have that many thieves. So why? They do not distract your learning, my school is strict enough. Phone (Nokia bri...
