Cumwoo, I challenge you to a debate! (Friendly banter between personal friends) You will be debating that the death penalty should be done away with, and I will be debating that it shouldn't be done away with. Let's set some rules and definitions, shall we? Definitions Death Penalty - "the sentence of execution for murder and some other capital crimes (serious crimes)" (1)<...

Death Penalty

This is my first debate here, so hopefully my opponent will go easy on me. ;) The death penalty, also known as capital punishment, has been a punishment for crime for millennia. Over the years, its use has been expanded and retracted. Perhaps the first polity to abolish the death penalty was the religion of Judaism, which, as long as 2000 years ago, created dozens of obstacles to make the punishment impossible to apply, for all intents and purposes. It was determined that only God had the rig...

MTK1978

Before I begin, I would like to note that I am brand new to this site and I am excited to begin debating and put my opinions out there. So, be aware that I am certainly not the most experienced one here. Now, first of all, I would lie to provide a definition.Death Penalty - Execution of an offender sentenced to dea...

Death Penalty

I am against capital punishment, regardless of the logical, economical, or practical arguments that support it. After countless debates I've concluded that, actually, capital punishment is wholly unnecessary. My primary concern is that once life is ended the death cannot be reversed, thus the issue of miscarriages of justice is evoked. I also feel that the government should not be involved in the killing of its citizens, regardless of the crime they have committed - two wrongs do not make a righ...

[2] Economy - an act or means of thrifty saving; a saving. [3] Second, since I have the burden of proof, here are a few fa...

There should be a death penalty for murderers

superkamal26
JohnnyC

There should be a death penalty for murderers to deter future murders. The death penalty would deter some future murders because some people who want to commit murder won't do it because they know that they will get killed if they do so. Studies have shown that it deters crime. Most criminals don't want to die. The death penalty should be done in a painful, harsh way so that it would be more likely to deter crime. Some People will be scared to commit murder if the death penalty is done by gettin...
