Can animals (non-human) create art?

ooberman
DaFarmerProject

My argument is that animals can create art for 1 reason. There is no objective definition of art. Therefore, if a man wants to sign a urinal and call it art (Duchamp), or an elephant steps on some paper and an art dealer wants to sell it to a wealthy idiot, it is still art. Art is subjective, so much so that it's a wonder how we let Universities charge people to learn it. Con will have to show that there are objective rules to art that distinguish between "real" art and "fake" art or, m...

It looks pretty normal. It's white with a blue stripe going all the way around it, free from advertisements. For some unknown reason, you're going to feel like the bus is drawing y...

Graffiti is art

DarkChiyoko
honasababa

Hi, I am DarkChiyoko. I am new to this website. I was bored and found this website, and wanted to create my own debate. I have been reading other debates and I am starting to understand the rules on this website. I am excited to have this debate. I believe that graffiti is art. Many people believe it is not. I would like to debate anyone who believes that graffiti is not an art, and see their points of view. After looking at someone else's debate, I noticed this interesting way of the debate's f...

The Arts are Equally Important to the Traditional Core Subjects

queerelves
Topkek

English, math, science, and social studies are treated as the only "important" areas of study. However, the arts (creative writing, visual art, music, dance, theater, etc.) are equally important. The traditional core subjects offer little room for creativity, and they consist mostly of hard facts. The arts, on the other hand, offer the ability to express oneself. In addition, art is an important part of culture and history, and learning about the way a culture created and interpreted art can be...

Is simplicity in literature overrated?

Ghosty
NiqashMotawadi3

"Art is not difficult because it wishes to be difficult, rather because it wishes to be art. However much the writer might long to be, in his work, simple, honest, straightforward, these virtues are no longer available to him. He discovers that in being simple, honest, straightforward, nothing much happens... We are looking for the as yet unspeakable, the as yet unspoken." -Donald Barthelme The quote above illustrates my stance on the topic. Please, if you accept this debate, explain w...
