Ad hominem is a logical fallacy

iamalwaysright
Rezzealaux

The ancient Greeks were well known for practicing the act of pederasty. They also believed in false gods and mythological tales that are quite obviously not possible in real life and defied logic. How is it then that such an insane and debased group of people have any say in what is "logical" or not? Why should we listen to anything that comes from a barbarous time in history where people assumed that it was okay for adults to make love to children? To even think they knew anything about what sh...

My photographs are, on the overall, "better" than my opponents.

s0m31john
coolmikeb

As I lost the last debate regarding this topic [1] , I feel that it must be held again for the redemption of my internet photography honor. This time around my opponent and I will post two (2) photographs that we have taken ourselves each round with short descriptions and a criticism of their opponent's previous photographs. My first pair of photographs will take us high up into the mountains of South Korea. Baekundae, the highest peak in Bukhansan National Park [2] offers a spectacula...

For each round, we will each draw something in MS Paint. We will each draw the same thing, and whoever has the best representation of it wins the round. I will pick what we draw in rounds 1 and 3 while my opponent will pick what we draw in rounds 2 and 4. Avenged Sevenfold is a better heavy metal/hardcore band than (opponent's choice)

gabeXcore
Grape

The Con must argue as to why Avenged Sevenfold is not better than a band of their choice. The standards that should weigh this round are: 1.Artistic expansion 2.Influence 3.staying power proportionate to the time they've been on the scene. 4. the intenisty of influence on the genre just for fun kinda thing, i am a huge A7X fan, so i figured id test my own ability to defend that veiw....

Mozart's Music Suffers from Having Too Many Notes

The_Harlequin
Insert-strange-name-here

Purely for fun, as I know Insert-strange-name-here personally in real life. This is a general argument which we have and would like somewhat resolved. First round: Introduction Second round: Argument Third: Rebuttal/Conclusion I shall provide a definition for the sake of clarity: The music of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart is, while technically dazzling and occasionally sublime, more often than not overwrought, emotionally turgid, and the...

A debater on Debate.org should not be allowed to vote for themselves after a debate

Blank
gelie96

The members on Debate.org that start debates, at the end of the debate should not be allowed to vote for themselves. Voting for yourself is just unsportsmanlike. If the other person cannot vote for themselves or refuses to vote out of principle, out of sportsmanship the other debater should let the people decide who won and not their biased opinions. A lot of the debates on this site are won by a person voting for themselves which is wrong. Some people cannot vote at all, so when going u...

Sonnet Challenge

Chrysippus
Danielle

There have been many, many "rap battles" on this site; I thought it'd make a nice change to have something more classical. In this debate, each opponent will attempt to make a sonnet based on his choice of one of four topics his opponent provides. The form is: abab, cdcd, efef, gg Ten syllables each line; some leeway in counting is permitted (e.g. "count'd" for "counted"), but if a debater relies too heavily on such tricks the S/G points should e taken away. In the first round, I ask...
