Should Australia Day be changed from January 26th to another date?

adeleadams

Australia day is a day we come together as a nation to celebrate what is great about Australia and being Australian. It is originally the anniversary of the arrival of the first fleet of 11 ships from great Britain. Focus is dramatically drawn to this, but what about the Aboriginies that have been here for 50,000 years?. The very first Australians to breathe and "invade" the land were the Aboriginal people who had been existing in Australia for at least 50,000 years before the British settlement...

Change the date of Australia day

clarew
moushic

I believe that the date of Australia day should be changed so that it is more inclusive to the indigenous people of our country. The current date of Australia day is January 26, the day recognised by history as the invasion of new Holland, as it was then known. It was (as noted by the age newspaper in the article the problem with Australia day) "an event which began a chain of disastrous consequences for the indigenous". If it were not for the arrival of "the white man" on Australian shores toda...

Australia Day should be changed from January 26th to another date.

Australia Day should be changed from January 26th to another date because of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people find Australia Day so offensive and they need to be recognised. Australians to this current day do not recognise the background history that Australia Day means for the Aboriginals. It"s simply insane that anyone could expect Aboriginal people to embrace January 26 as the national day, given what Australia Day actually means to them. Australia Day portrays a variety of meanin...

Should the government invest in education?

A factor of having well educated people is it can potentially produce less crime rates and construct a healthier environment. All business related factors stems from the The Us. environment and its impaction on the people. What do you think?...

God Does Not Exist

enpeper7
iTruthSeeker

This is a debate about whether or not the Christian God exists. The first round is for acceptance and the definition of God. I would like if, in the first round, my opponent would provide a detailed definition of the Christian God. I ask this because there are many possible interpretations of the Bible. This definition will be the accepted, unchanging definition used in this debate. Please only accept this debate if you are a Christian....

The Earth is more flat than it is spherical.

Cobalt

The opponent's impassioned ideas on the nature of the Earth, specifically with regard to its shape, have inspired me to challenge him to a debate. In an attempt to be as fair as possible, I've worded the resolution in such a way that neither side has to prove the Earth is precisely "flat" or "spherical", as such perfect solids don't exist in the real world. Rather, I'll be arguing that the Earth is mostly spherical and my opponent will be arg...

Australia day has a black history. In reality it's the anniversary of the white mans arrival and seizure of Australia. If your ancestors were dispossessed, slaughtered and their families had children taken away and stolen from their arms, Would you celebrate the day it begun? Should Australia day be changed from the 26th of January? For aboriginal people Australia Day is a day of mourning. It reminds them of the genocide that occurred to their people, a time when British settlers separate...
