100th Debate: Taxes Should be Raised on the Rich

1Historygenius
lord_megatron

Hello friends! I'm doing my 100th debate here on DDO. For this debate, I decided to pick my favorite topic of tax policy. I will argue against taxes being raised on the rich and I will instead argue that taxes should be maintained or lowered for economic and government revenue benefits. My opponent must argue that raising taxes on the rich. The rich are those paying, as many would agree, the current top income tax rate and current capital gains tax rate.

Should taxes be spent on welfare?

Carnajusa
HaileyL

Basically money that people work for is going to people who don't work and allowing them to live jobless lives. It is an extreme waste of money and doesn't strengthen our economy it only cripples it. Instead it should be spent to get homeless people jobs and homes and a boost to live a normal life rather than normal healthy people living off it forever. This would insure everyone gets a job and not have homeless struggle for money....

Should University be free?

caelin11
Samwell

Definiton: An institution for higher learning with teaching and research facilities typically including a graduate school No, university should not be free as there wouldn't be enough money to support buying technology and things for the school. University also needs hard workers; so people who had been working will have enough money to at least put a student loan down. Poverty in college students would increase as they wouldn't have to work to attend the university, and there would be no poi...

certain jobs require certain people, do you agree? (what about the disabled?)

LisandraP
kingkd

Hiring practices should not be left to the discretion of the businesses, if they do not want to hire woman who might have children, or people with disabilities, that is not their right. It is not fair whether a company decides whether or not a person is allowed to perform a certain job, it is not fair to think that a certain job requires a certain person to fill it in. It is still discrimination if we look at figures such as sexual orientation, culture, mentally disabled, religion, sex, ethnicit...

The United States should return to the gold standard

RoyalFlush100
Max.Wallace

First round is acceptance only. Pro cannot introduce any new arguments in the final round as Con has no chance to rebut them. The gold standard is defined as "a monetary system in which a country's government allows its currency unit to be freely converted into fixed amounts of gold and vice versa. The exchange rate under the gold standard monetary system is determined by the economic difference for an ounce of gold between two currencies." (1) 1-http://www.investopedia.com/terms/g/gold...
