Raising the minimum wage

Debatefan
JohnMaynardKeynes

I am against raising the minimum wage, and believe it will not help our economy or even the workers getting higher pay in the long run. The following is my initial argument. I look forward to reading the opposing argument. 1) Raising the minimum wage is not efficient, if companies have to pay their workers more money, then they will have to either cut back on everyone"s hours or lay some people off. Less workers means less production which does not help the growth of an economy. 2) Now that p...

French is more useful than Spanish on a Global Scale

General-Z

French is more useful than Spanish because French countries such as Switzerland and Luxembourg have a higher GDP per capita than any country with Spanish as the official language. In addition, France is the fifth wealthiest economy in the world. Meanwhile, Spain has high unemployment rate (http://www.tradingeconomics.com/spain/unemployment-rate) Along with that, South-Central American countries to tend to have higher crime rate : http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/04/10/worlds-highest-murder...

Pennies should not be abolished and are necessary to stabilise the economy.

General-Z
Pelasgians

Pennies, just like any unprofitable variation of currency. are a waste of time and money. For instance, according to http://www.usmint.gov/faqs/circulating_coins/?action=faq_circulating_coin it costs 2.41 cents to make a penny. Not only is the penny cost inefficient, it also should be noted you can't use pennies in parking meters, vending machines. and in some ATMs. Abolishing the production of the penny, just like how Canada did, will result in less taxpayer money spent on a pointless objec...

Capitalism is an Inherently Immoral System

voxprojectus

Opening round is for Opening Arguments. Here's mine: Free-Market Capitalism, however well-meaning its proponents may be, invariably results in huge inequities, a failure for the needs of the majority to be met, and, most controversially, an overall devaluation of human life. 1. Inequality. In the most laissez-faire economies, resources both untaxed by government, or regulated in their disbursement invariably begin to belong to fewer and fewer people. The Oil Tycoon, for instance, who sh...

Exchange-Traded Funds should be prioritized in investing rather than stock.

Preston
ChosenWolff

Define ETF:A security that tracks an index, a commodity or a basket of assets like an index fund, but trades like a stock on an exchange. ETFs experience price changes throughout the day as they are bought and sold. By owning an ETF, you get the diversification of an index fund as well as the ability to sell short, buy on margin and purchase as little as one share. Another advantage is that the expense ratios for most ETFs are lower than those of the average mutual fund....

The Minimum Wage

JohnMaynardKeynes

This debate will focus on the minimum wage. As Pro, I will argue in favor of it, whereas Con will argue against it. The winner of this debate will be the individual who proves his or her case with a preponderance of evidence. This means that both debaters possess an equal burden of proof.Round 1 will be for acceptance, Round 2 will be for opening arguments, Round 3 will be for rebuttals, and Round 4 will be f...
