forgiving sins verse in John more consistent with Catholic interpretation

dairygirl4u2c
2-D

Here is the verse in question: "If you forgive the sins of any, their sins have been forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they have been retained." John 20:23 catholics hold that a priest has been given the authority to forgive sins. if the priest decides to not absolve the person, their sins could be said to be retained. how would you interpret it in a way other than that? from an evangelical perspective, a person couldn 't really be said to forgive sins, but even if they could...

John 6 more consistent with Catholic interpretation

philochristos

John 6:53 "Jesus said to them, "Very truly I tell you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. 54Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day. 55For my flesh is real food and my blood is real drink. 56Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me, and I in them. 57Just as the living Father sent me and I live because of the Father, so the one who feeds on me will live because of me....

God Most Definitely Does talk to people other than prophets directly. I have many associates who I can guarentee are not prophets. All christians can have a prophetic on some level, but that doesnt make them prophets . the golden rule in application is unclear

dairygirl4u2c

do unto others as you'd have them do unto you. one might argue the golden rule is clear, but could only referring in that instance that the rule is stated clearly. i agree with that. that's why i said 'in application' in the opening statement, it's not clear. if it is clear, what are the guiding principles that can determine how to act in accordance with it? instead of a mess of ideas, given this idea is hard for me to discuss in the abstract, i will give an example....

The Christian God exists (9)

superbowl9
Shruti1

This is a debate about whether or not the Christian god exists. I will be refuting arguments from my opponent, who will have the burden of proving that the Christian god is real. The Christian god is the god as described by Jesus and the Bible. Rounds 1-4 are all for claims, rebuttals, and counter-rebuttals. Since I would not be able to refute my opponent's fourth-round claims, I request that they write "no round" in the fourth round of the debate. You can use any type of evidence, o...

No Fault Divorce means there are no legal Marriages

pivot
VogonPoet

The Pro position, (mine) is that if a contract entered into by two parties can be nullified at anytime for any reason or for no reason at all by either party at anytime- That contract is meaningless. It is not worth the paper it is written on. Furthermore, since the marriage contract is the basic building block on which government is based then there are no contracts of any real value. Even the Constitution of the United States is a worthless contract if there is No Fault Divorce....

Religions can be proved or disproved

Jocie
ELDRITCH

Religion. There are hundreds of religions in the world. To start off, there's Christianity, then Islam, then Judaism, and lots of other ones. People that stand strong by their religions believe that it can be proved and the other religions can be disproved. I say no. Not to break anyone's dreams or anything, but religions can never be proved or disproved, and they should stay that way. It's all about the leap of faith you take. The leap of faith that can change your life....
