Abortions are morally wrong.

Freeman
mongeese

I will be negating the resolution that abortions are morally wrong, and since most abortions occur in the first trimester this debate will only focus on abortions that take place during that time period. Moral philosophers, theologians, and medical practitioners have argued about the ethics behind abortion for quite some time. And many deeply ethical people have come to view abortion as being morally reprehensible. However, most of the arguments against abortion can be shown to be fallacious...

Evolution, the theory that all life is the result of purely undirected processes, is probably false.

SnoopyDaniels
jjmd280

Science is a methodological approach to understanding the properties and behaviors of the physical world. The scientific method relies on hypothesizing based on already known facts, making predictions based on this hypothesis, and testing the hypothesis via experimentation. The scientific "truth" is that scientific theory which best explains the phenomenon in question, where "best" is defined as "most adequate." Unfortunately, this can often be subjective. Nevertheless, when applicable cases ari...

Personal pictures as avatars should be disallowed on debate.org.

bsergent
artC

If this site is about ideas, then there is no need for faces. What a person looks like has absolutely no bearing on the validity of a point so why introduce that data? Personal photos could easily be faked. They pose a distraction. They encourage prejudice and stereotyping. They reduce personal security. They serve no relevant purpose. They encourage classism. They encourage sexism....

Really what is the truth about the earth and how we got here?

GodSands
beem0r

20 billion years ago. Nothingness. Then suddenly some unknown atom massed outwards into space, if only we could get our hands on this "atom", as there was space for this explosion to expand into there had to be time and existing matter there before. According to science outside the universe, it's a void where nothing can exist. So how did anything come together to begin with? So far I would say im being logical. Then the next part is chemical evolution, how and where did all these chemicals get...

Everyone knows about vote bombing, which is the practice of a small group pouring all their votes with no justification onto one person. Purposes for doing so may range from just wanting to raise each others' percentages to purposely trashing another person's win rate. Whether or not CWO, as made infamous by the other debate, exists to vote bomb or not, one fact is clear: vote bombing exists. I myself have been victim to it several times. The first few by a single person who made several a...

The new testament is without contradiction.

izbo10
BennyW

The way this debate will go is I will show that there are contradictions, the person I am debating will attempt to show that there are no contradictions in the bible. Round 1 will merely be accepting the challenge. In round 2 I will begin my arguments for a contradiction. I define contradictions in the bible a the bible taking both sides of a mutually exclusive dichotomy. Mutually exclusive meaning that if one is true the other is by default false. Good luck to my opponent....

The 'Problem of Evil' never succeeds (Attempt 1)

Ryft
TheSkeptic

==== FULL RESOLUTION ==== There are literally no versions of the Problem of Evil argument that succeed at proving the non-existence of God. ==== CONTENTION ==== From versions of the logical Problem of Evil to its evidential varieties, including all forms of the Problem of Suffering, not a single one of these arguments ever succeed at proving the non-existence of God. That is the position I am affirming and defending. Although some of them expose powerful demands for a coherent and consi...

The fat should be made to buy two seats on planes

brian_eggleston
thisoneguy

I was involved in a rather unpleasant incident on a British Airways flight from Aberdeen to Heathrow recently. (1) The aircraft was an Airbus A319 with a single economy (coach) class cabin which was fitted with seats with a width of 17.0" (2) and the aisle seat I was allocated was located next to a grossly overweight gentleman, whose considerable girth was overflowing onto my seat, thus preventing me from putting the armrest down or fastening my seatbelt. I therefore challenged the man and here...

Objectivism is not a logically valid philosophy.

Zetsubou
Cody_Franklin

Objectivism is... My first more intellectual "real" debate. A bit late but I hope to do more soon. Kantism and "methodological antipositivism" are open [Int=Pro]. >>Intro<< It has arised to me Cody that you are a very smart person, you where right about Objectivism you "couldn't honestly challenge the logic he was setting in front of me[Cody]", why? Because it's infallible with it's supposed axioms. You have also fallen into what is the Objectivist way of thinking, rationization and impli...

Atheists should have their own Constution and Bill of Rights.

sadolite
DucoNihilum

Since Atheists don't believe in god they should have to make their own rights and laws and be separated from the current Constitution and Bill of Rights. Since the the Preamble to the Constitution states that all men are endowed by God to certain inalienable rights, Atheists should not be afforded these rights because they are endowed by God and for people who believe in God. You can not say that atheists can have rights that God created, they don't' believe in God therefore can't believe in any...
