is humanity a good thing

fenrir677
moneystacker

I don't think humanity is a good thing,we have caused more destruction environmentally than any other species and we are the only species who have exhibited shows of large scale destruction on a possibly planetary level,we have killed off many species, almost drained the world of its resources we fight and kill, and our capacity for good is heavily overshadowed by our increasing capacity for 'evil' ,our innovation is rarely helpful to anyone but us,and if you looked at it like this, humanity sounds...

Is morality subjective and dependent solely upon the individual?

the_banjo_sender
Briannj17

Morality, it seems in this day and age, is largely shaped around the individual. Why is this? What is morality, after all, if not a social contract that binds the people of a community together to ensure that they do not inconvenience one another? For example, robbing a bank seems to be a perfectly moral thing to do from my point of view. It benefits me greatly and hardly bothers anyone else. Obviously, the bank is ensured, and the users of banks are not going to be kept from their money if t...

Free will is an illusion.

Furyan5
Zarium

No choice we make is truly free. Every thought, desire and action is predetermined by our specific circumstances since birth until this current moment. Some reasons are physical, some are territorial and some are psychological, but the outcome is undeniable. In any situation we have but one path open to us. Choice is a creation of the subconscious mind to show the conscious mind what to do. ...

there are no absolutes

ellyyoungggg
SarcasticMethod

Absolute (n) viewed or existing independently and not in relation to other things; not relative or comparative. When you look at something you see it for how it is in that hour, minute, second, moment. For example, when staring at our hands we see five fingers. That is absolute, in that hour, minute, second, moment. There is no proof that they will stay the same, absolute forever. In fact, from this moment forward there are an infinite amount of outcomes that could change your five fingers. Your...

There is no objective basis for moralatiy

AGluttonousAscetic
b.fields

My position is that there is not an objective basis for morality; that the act of judging or labeling something (and action, thought, etc.) as either moral or immoral is based on non-objective sources. For this debate, the term "objective" will have the definition found in the Merriam-Webster dictionary: of, relating to, or being an object, phenomenon, or condition in the realm of sensible experience independent of individual thought and perceptible by all observers: having reality independen...
