The Angel of the LORD is evil part 2

pivot
yoshidino

In "The Angel of the LORD is evil" part 1 my opponent made the argument that there is a double standard. That the LAW of Moses does not apply to the angels. That was the entire debate. As Pro I argued that there is a double standard but that it should not be allowed. That the angels are just as subject to the LAW of Moses as the humans are. Specifically that murder is against the law whether one is an Angel or a human. In this debate we are going to apply the LAW of Moses concerning murder direc...

Evolution is based on scientific facts, while Creationism is a common pseudoscience

mm3icbm
yoshidino

The Bible's Genesis provides no scientific fact other than simply taking the word of an ancient book, where the religion's followers have picked and chose whatever beliefs they sought fit to their agenda of providing a moral standard. The scientific evidence provided is flawed in that the perquisites for any evolutionary process to occur is immediately denied, ie, the age of the earth. Lets keep the first round short and sweet for a basic introduction of the topic at hand. There will be no ins...

The Bible Disproves Young Earth Creation

SFG2344
NathanDuclos

Round 1 is just for acceptance. The following rounds are for debating. This is not a debate over the legitimacy of the Bible or a debate over YEC vs. evolution, but a debate regarding if the Bible actually teaches YEC. Any quotes of the Bible should be from the standard KJV translation, for the sake of consistency. My goal will be to support the claim that the Bible has verses contrary to the beliefs and assumptions of YEC doctrines....

God does not arbitrarily manipulate the laws of physics and perform miracles.

IvenMartin
james14

Defining God. There are three commonly held views on God that can be broken down by category. In the first view God can and does interfere with the universe, arbitrarily manipulating the laws of physics and performing miracles. In the second view, God is part of the universe and works to the laws of physic- we may have observed God already but have a different name for it (e.g. nature). In the third view, God does not interfere with the laws of physics but may have spun things into motion. In t...

The texts of the bible are historically unreliable

Valiya
whitesworstnightmare

The texts of the bible have NOT been preserved in their original form. Such a currupted book cannot provide us with any reliable information on the historicity of Jesus, leave alone spiritual guidance. For my argument I will be using examples from the available manuscript traditions of the bible, highlighting the irreconcilable variations between them, and examples of additions and deletions to suit different christologies at different times. ...

Ancient Hindu texts of Mahabharata and Ramayana can be taken in literal meaning.

ChandanB
cuntface666

In the religion of Hinduism, ancient texts of Mahabharata and Ramayana mention incidents of supernatural nature. These supernatural activities are nothing but the poetic licence and metaphors used by the poets. Therefore I hold the view that those incidences can not be taken in a literal way and assumed that people in ancient times had supernatural powers to carry on such kind of activities....

Water baptism is essential to salvation.

MarioWatsonBeasley
Philosophybro

I believe that the Bible teaches, water baptism is essential to salvation in a multitude of areas within the New Testament. Not water baptism alone but, it is required to become a Christian. Jesus said in John 3:5, that you must be born again of the water and of the spirit. He also said that you must believe and be baptized in order to be saved in Mark 16:16. There's nowhere in the Bible where an individual became a Christian by belief/faith only. However, the only thing that puts one into Chris...

Is an atheist celebrating Christmas hypocritical

cb123
blackkid

I will define celebrating within the context of this argument as participation, so buying/receiving presents, personally decorating your home/personal spaces, refusal to work, giving cards, partaking in unequivocally Christian practices such as carol singing, attending Christian services such as mass, adoration of a Christmas tree publicly, proclaiming Christmas statement onto others such as happy Christmas or any other practice which is actively participated in or perpetrated by the individual...

Was Muhammad Guilty of Ethnically Cleansing Jews and Jew Hatred?

DavidMGold
inasef

This debate is on whether the prophet of Islam, Muhammad, committed ethnic cleansing against the three Jewish tribes of Arabia. Also at issue in this debate is the open incitement of the most vile forms of Jew hatred within the words and deeds of Muhammad as well as verses from the Qu'ran with corroborating evidence in the Hadiths. At issue will be the following: 1) The three Jewish tribes living in Medina were hospitable to Muhammad and his followers allowing them to move to Medina. 2) M...
