.9999 repeating = 1

Singularity
astrosfan

As we all should know: .9 = 9/10 .99 = 99/100 .999 = 999/1000 etc. In this debate, I support the notion that an infinite number of 9's after the decimal place is simply a different notation for writing the number 1. My claim is simply that .99999... (where the "..." denotes repeating) = 1 exactly....

The Real ID Act of 2005 should be repealed

JBlake
Morty

Note: I would prefer to avoid an argument of semantics. It is my hope that my opponent will stick to the issue of the Real ID Act, or a national identification system. Contention 1: The Real ID Act creates a national id card for the United States. Contention 2: A national id system has the potential for misuse. Contention 3: Said system has the potential to be used to violate privacy. Both from the public and private sectors. Contention 4: The system would require a centrally linked da...

Debate.org is a nice place to debate =)

water321
Sweatingjojo

I believe that Debate.org is a nice place to debate. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Debate Well I suppose that allot of people here are not here for the fun of it. But there is allot of people here that support my words because they also like debating. I assume that debating is a good source for getting more knowledge and fun. Even the creator (Phil) likes debating. That is my first round....

The government has been complicit in spreading HIV in poor and black communities

RenegadeIconoclast
Mangani

I will argue that the premise of Rev. Jeremiah Wright that so inflamed Americans is actually true. He argued that the government has spread HIV or been complicit in its spread, especially in the black community. My first contention is that the government, and their officials, make a lot of money from the drug trade. The drug war costs hundreds of billions when the money is all tallied up, and that money doesn't just disappear, it goes into peoples' pockets. Millions benefit from the prison sy...

Res: It is morally permissible to kill one innocent person to save the lives of more innocent people

funnybrad333
burningpuppies101

I am against this resolution because of one important contention: 1) An Individual's Rights A life should not be discarded to save people that one is not affiliated with. The person that would die is innocent, and has no gain from dieing for an other's cause and would most definitely not consent. The idea is unfathomable when looked at from the following perspective: What if you were the innocent person? You would be killed for some "greater good" that has no purpose in your life. Vote CON...

Forks are better than spoons.

cardboardstereo
Harlan

They both have the sort of inverted dip, good for scooping food. However, forks have prongs, and spoons are rounded and dull at the tip. A fork is clearly much more beneficial to eat with, and you can eat a wider variety of food with this utensil....

The PS3 is a better system than the X-Box 360.

Labrat228
pickpocket094

Hello to all potential voters and my potential opponent. I find that I have a great advantage compared to some in this debate, due to the fact that I have both a PS3 and an X-Box 360. I will use this round to give debate topics and to set up an easy to read form. In this debate I will point out the five main things, these five being: 1) Reliability 2) Graphics 3) Games 4) Misc. Features (Messenger Programs, Browser, Video, Pic, Music... etc) 5) Price I would like for my opponents rebut...

Resolved: In a fight without prior preparation, Batman would certainly defeat Spider-Man.

Logical-Master
Robert_Santurri

If Batman and Spider-Man were to fight, Spider-Man would beat the living daylights out of Batman. First, Spider-Man has superhuman abilities. Batman is an Olympic level human in terms of physical attributes. Clearly, Spider-Man is superior in this regard. Second, Spider-Man has the advantage in terms of intellect. Whereas Batman abuses his billions of dollars to buy fancy gadgets, Spider-Man actually creates his sophisticated devices (while using an extremely limited amount of resources) w...

Light, Fluffy Snow is better than Wet, Heavy Snow

Freshiequest
eddietastic

When the average person imagines a beautiful snowfall they picture light, fluffy flakes gently falling from the sky and coming to rest on the bare ground much like powdered sugar would cover a cake. They picture themselves going outside with their arms outstretched and mouths wide open, catching the graceful snowflakes on their tongues. They DO NOT picture a heavy wet snow cascading down from the sky, soaking their clothing and making travel impossible. Giving the imagery presented above...
