Time to die, Purple Circle.

I believe a soul mate can only be your significant other because if your best friend and best friend only was considered your soul mate the term would lose value.
9spaceking

Con

I thank my opponent for replying.

Now, Google defines "soul mate" as "a person ideally suited to another as a close friend or romantic partner." [https://www.google.com...]

Note the "OR". Therefore your soul mate can just be merely your very best friend and still be accounted for as a "soul mate". The "best friend" part of the definition and the "romantic" part are both separated by an "or" on Google.com, therefore they have equal value by definition. Soul mate can also be a best friend, not only romantic.

I'm very well aware of Google's definition of the word soul mate that is why I created this debate in the first place because I disagree with the definition, because a soul mate should understand and connect with you on every level and if they don't connect with you romantically how can they be your soul mate?
9spaceking

Con

Why do they have to connect to you in a romantic way? My opponent uses nothing to back this up.

In conclusion, my opponent fails to fulfill her burden of proof, choosing instead to make mere assertions without any evidence. This Purple Circle, I declare, is defeated.

I don't think that's what a soul mate is I think if you ask people what's a soul mate you would get many different responses and many people agree with me on what's a soul mate it's a word that's open to debate the word won is a very simple word with no controversy to it.

this is a debate on semantics with no right or wrongs other than dictionary, pointless debate. Disagreeing with definitions is impossible by definition because that is what the word means. Its like me making a debate with the resolution as:
'The word "won" does not refer to victory'.

The debate is inconcise at best. What exactly does "A soul mate can only be a romantic partner" mean?

I don't know what you mean by physical involvement.

Hmm, interesting. Do you mean that the only way to consider one your soul mate is to be physically involved with that person ?

Reasons for voting decision: Con meet there BoP. They showed the definition of soul mate can mean friend. Pros argument against this was basically, "I don't agree with that." They didn't have a argument to back this up. Pro could have shown how there definition better matched and why. Pros argument was 3 sentences with no sources. Pro made such a weak argument that con really didn't have to use more that a simple definition to make a better argument. Pro next time when you start you own debate have more than 3 sentences to say on the subject.

Reasons for voting decision: Pro makes an invalid argument when he says that a best friend cannot be your soul mate as they do not connect with you on every level. This is invalid because a soul mate does not always have to connect with you on every level; only the stable ones. Romance can easily break people up. Con points that out. He also cites a source.

Reasons for voting decision: Pro's argument was that a "soulmate" should connect on every level - including romance. No romance = not your soul mate. Con glosses over this argument, and claims since Pro "didn't back it up," Con wins by default. But it was a logical argument, and made perfect sense to me; I don't think Con was justified in brushing it aside unanswered. Arguments to Pro. Sources tied - pro didn't use any, and con only referenced the Google definition, which is not a reliable source.
