Con

Abortion is wrong for many reasons... You are taking away the life of an innocent human being

Pro

The question of whether or not abortion is justified hinges on at what point in the gestation period a human being, deserving of moral standing and protection of the law has been created. It shouldn't be based upon the point at which evidence of human life appears. A live human skin cell is evidence of human life including all the DNA of a human and no one would consider that cell to be worthy of protection. A zygote has the potential for a human being but potential is not actuality.

Less than 10% of pregnancies end in miscarriage, so the reality is that could have been a healthy baby. If you support abortion you support slavery - end of discussion .
slave (noun) - a person who is the legal property of another and is forced to obey them.
If you are saying that women should be able to have abortions, you are implying they get to choose the fate of the baby or organism, this means that you are saying the mothers own the children.

While most agree that a born human deserves protection, there's little societal agreement as to when pre birth a human is created. Judaic law, for example, does not consider a human being to exist until after birth. In my opinion, a fertilized egg, or early stage fetus, is no more a human than a pile of construction materials is a home, or an acorn an oak tree. Up to the point when the mother, or the law, decides a human exists her zygote/fetus is her property to do with as she pleases.

Con offered two arguments: abortion ends an innocent life; and allowing a woman to abort a pregnancy is equivalent to accepting slavery. Both arguments require the existence of a human being who has a life to be taken or enslaved. I have argued that both a zygote and an early stage fetus are potential, not actual human beings. Inasmuch as there is no generally agreed gestational point at which a human being appears that decision should be the mother's; and that decision is an acceptable one.

Another interesting debate. One could argue that since the fetus is attached to mother's body, it is technically part of her body, much like her arm or hand. Abortion would therefore be self-mutilation through the removal of tissue. Until the fetus develops enough neural tissue to create consciousness, it would not be cognizant of pain or imminent death.

Reasons for voting decision: Con forfeited a round so conduct goes to Pro. Con did not provide any rebuttals to Pro's well worded and concise arguments. Pro challenged all of Con's arguments very well. Con did not attempt to refute the points those challenges made.
