"Back-alley" abortions cause 68,000 maternal deaths each year in the 33 countries where abortion is not legal or available, according to the World Health Organization in Oct. 2006
Abortion is a safe medical procedure. The vast majority of women - 88% - who have an abortion do so in their first trimester. Medical abortions have less than 0.5% risk of serious complications and do not affect a woman's health or future ability to become pregnant or give birth.
In the case of rape or incest, forcing a woman made pregnant by this violent act would cause further psychological harm to the victim. Often a woman is too afraid to speak up or is unaware she is pregnant, thus the morning after pill is ineffective in these situations.

As this is your first debate I'll ease you into it. Since this is a multi-round debate with plenty of characters we have lots of time for back and forth.

Since your first round was just laying out a few statistics and basic premises I'll do the same. That way we are equal with each other. Next round, the gloves come off!

As of the 40th anniversary of Roe v. Wade there have been over 55.7 million abortions in the USA alone. [1]

This averages out to roughly 278 abortions per 1000 live births. [2] Thus over 1 in 5 people under 40 were denied the right to life.

As we know that life begins at fertilization, the US has permitted the legal murder of more than:

3 x 15-17 million who died in WWI [3]
5 x 11 million who died in the Holocaust [4]
1.6 x the entire population of Canada [5]

I'll leave it at that for now.

I look forward to your opening arguments and will provide mine along with a rebuttal in the next round.

I thank Pro for her concession. However, as she leaves this debate, I would ask her to consider whether she would actually make the same argument with other topics:

sure we can and cant have rape. lets just leave it at that

sure we can and cant have theft. lets just leave it at that

sure we can and cant have concentration camps. lets just leave it at that

sure we can and cant have slavery. lets just leave it at that

Thank-you. As this is a public website, the jokes you tell with your friends are not necessarily appropriate for strangers. DDO has some standards and respect for everyone is among those.

I will post my opening argument later.
