Assuming murder will not be upheld within a civilized society, the abortion debate boils down to two fundamental questions.

When does life begin?
Is an unborn baby simply part of the women's body?

This is NOT a pros or cons debate. You are either Prolife or Prochoice.

Thank You!

As my opponent has not posted any arguments, I will give a few instances of why I am Pro-CHOICE.

Women should always have the choice of what to do with their bodies. I do not condone abortion as birth control...

But if the baby poses a harm (more than the usual risks of pregnancy) the women should have the CHOICE to terminate the pregnancy to protect her own life.

If a woman is raped, and is impregnanted against her will, she should have the CHOICE to end that pregnancy.

I will make rebuttals and furhter elaborations on these arguments when Pro has attempted to debate this topic.

ChuzLife, do you want to debate "Voluntary abortion should be legal"?

The questions in this debate are for the most part already settled in our (United States) laws.

We already have laws which legally define a child in the womb as a 'CHILD' and as a human being. Those laws also already make it a crime of MURDER to kill a child in the womb - in a criminal act.

Those laws also - for now - make exceptions to themselves to keep voluntary abortions legal.

My prediction is that sooner or later, a person convicted of murder for killing a child in the womb will eventually have an appeal that reaches the Supreme Court. They will argue that our "Fetal Homicide" laws are un-Constitutional because they conflict with the Court's decision on Roe.

Then, the SCOTUS will have to reconcile the two.

And it is then (in my opinion) that Roe will be overturned.

Are you pro choice or pro life?

Or you could ask another question, which I think is more important: Do the rights of the child take precedence over those of the mother? In other words, can we allow the woman's rights to be violated in order to respect those of the child?

ZossWorks states this is not a pro or con debate and it is unclear whether the introductory remarks made it unclear what side ZossWorks will be arguing. My guess is pro-choice but I could not tell from the wording. I realize this is ZossWorks first debate and realize the first debate is as much about learning the ropes of DDO as it is developing an argument. Anyway, looked at the debate and wanted to argue the pro-choice position but wanted some clarification.

The only way to objectively debate this is to completely define 2 things.

Life

Human (Adjective)

I would accept this debate (in support of allowing abortion), but I believe the more relevant thing is personhood. After all, we don't call it murder when we wash with anti-bacterial soap, because we understand that - even though both bacteria and humans have life, we only regard one of them as a person.

Are you prolife or pro choice then?

This is not a Pro-Con debate? Then what's the point? To just share you're beliefs?
