Abortion should be legalized because everybody mistakes and the baby might have defects that family can not support and the baby might be in pain for life with that defect. Sometimes young women make mistakes and accidentally get pregnant, if they are unprepared financially and emotionally they should have the option of having an abortion. When the person finds out the baby has a defect and the family can't support the costs to support the child or the child will live in pain for his/her life because of the defect, it is ok to put it out of its misery.

Thats a good point, But when you say women make mistakes, its just what it is. If the baby has any types of negative effects, it really does not matter. A human being is important to keep in thus world no matter what type of disabilities or other issues a baby might have. Also you said that when a women makes a mistake, disabilities or other issues could happen to the baby. Well the women who was pregenat should of known the right precautions in order to have a saf pregancy. Human beings are human beings and everybody should have a chance to live.

Hello people, Rondo and I are mutual friends and we did this debate in 20 minutes total, this explains why both of our arguments are horrible. We did this during history class with a sub. Rondo really wanted to finish before the period ended, so I rushed in my arguments. Lo siento

Why do you guys care more about unborn fetuses than sperm cells when people masturbate?

To be honest, both sides have made weak arguments. I agree with abortion, but the argument for it sucks. I am against what Con is saying, but it is better than what Pro is saying... So I guess I have to vote for Con...

Take for example the following situation:
A girl is over 16 and has been with her boyfriend for over a year, they are in a committed relationship. They have safe sex for months but one day (through bad luck) the safety doesn't work for them and she falls pregnant. She is not a slut (as everybody seems to assume teenagers that are pregnant are) but she has made the same mistake as them. If she aborts the baby then she can go to university and get a successful job before trying to start a family again. If she keeps it then the baby has parents who aren't ready, and have no money to support it.
This example will get mixed signals, and some may not agree with the point I am making, but it annoys me when people assume that a teenager who has fallen pregnant is an idiot and a slut, when teenage pregnancies can just as easily be caused by strong relationships taking full safety measures who just have bad luck.
To say that abortion is murder because the foetus has the chance for a life may well say that masturbation and safe sex is also murder, because the sperm is also a chance for a life, just in an earlier stage.
So yeah, I agree with what Pro is supposed to be defending, but the points were not effective. Con made the better case (although still not very effective).

I am also in support in legal abortion, but the pro side just put up an awful debate. Point for con.

Abortion will always be wrong, even the women that have it done will admit this. However abortion may still be necessary.

What I meant to say is that

If parents have a right to take life based on the assumption that the baby is unwanted or not fit to live , then this right creates a Spartan society - when people were killed , if the state considered them unfit to live ( disabled , the elderly , or not having certain characteristics .

By killing a baby before it is born , you are not giving baby a chance or choice to see if he can make it or not . Lot of people with problems and their parents not wanting them have made it .

Assumption that some people don't want a certain would create a Spartan society where people were killed off when the state decided that these people had no right to live . Hitlar's Germany was based on the same principle .

If an adult makes a mistake , then he / she should bear the responsibility , not an unborn child . If an adult refuses to take the responsibility , then she or he should give up her / his freedom . It is very straight forward

Maybe, just maybe, girls shouldn't be going around having sex all the time, and "mistakes" wouldn't happen. People need to learn not to just bang everywhere, and then they wouldn't get pregnant with a kid they can't support, and they wouldn't have to kill an innocent child.

Before you can say everybody should have a chance to live, you'll have to prove that living with problems and a parent who doesn't want you is worth not living at all.

Reasons for voting decision: There were flaws in both arguments enough that they were even, no one used sources and Pro's spelling and grammar was a little better than Con's. I think there should have been more rounds for rebuttals to make a juicier debate.

Reasons for voting decision: con wins because a person's right to live > Possible over costs. If pro only had another round...he could have used this point against con, saying how without abortion BOTH the mother and the fetus would die, and two lives out number one....oh well.
