Abortion: The deliberate termination of a human pregnancy, most often performed during the first 28 weeks of pregnancy.
Abortion should become illegal in Iowa with the exception of extreme cases. Which is going to be explained why in a couple of paragraphs.
"It is a new frontier of the anti-abortion movement: laws banning abortion at 20 weeks after conception, contending that fetuses can feel pain then" (Belluck) It was proven in recent research that abortion is not as "harmless" as people make it out to be. After about 20 weeks of the pregnancy the baby is able to feel pain.
What is abortion you may ask? or what is the procedure? well it is important for people to understand what the fetuses and mother have to go through before they make a decision if they support pro life or pro choice. "suction out the fetus and placenta " (abortion procedures) The fetuses actually has to be cut into pieces in order for it to fully be removed and if the abortion is not done soon enough this can cause extreme pain for the fetuses.
People could argue all of this by simply saying that "People have the right to speak so people should have the right to abortions" Yes, it is a right that people have but, killing an innocent life because the fetuses is unwanted is not exactly a right that should be given to people. There are multiple other options that mothers/couples could make instead of killing the baby.
"over 300,000 people choose to adopt every year" (adoption.org) Going through with the pregnancy and giving it to a family that is unable to have a baby or wants to adopt would be a better route to go then killing the baby. Not only would it help the mother who can not/dosent want to have the baby but it would also help the family who is unable.
Abortion should become illegal in Iowa with the exception of extreme cases such as the mother is ill or not healthy enough to have a child. Remember that is bad for multiple reasons and there is always another option than to kill a innocent child.

To win, pro will not need to prove that it is immoral to have an abortion, but that it should be illegal in the State of Iowa. I will not focus on the moral aspect, but I will focus on the legality of the issue. I am only defending abortions in the first and second trimester. In a perfect world I would agree with pro, but unfortunately we all know this world is far from perfect. Best of luck to Pro and I hope all voters put aside Religious bias and vote fair.

A fetus is not a baby and a baby is not a child. I am not in support of legal baby killings. I am not in support of legal child killings. A fetus is a developing organism dependent on another to continue to develop. The term "Child" and "Baby" can not be used when speaking on abortion. A child and a baby breath and eat for themselves.. a fetus does not. I do not believe you will find any logical person who supports the killing of babies and children. Ok, good.. glad we got that out of the way.

From the context of Pro's initial argument, they believe a fetus conceived during rape can not be aborted. I believe this is a very selfish and nearsighted statement. As if the psychological effects of rape are not bad enough, a woman now needs to give birth and be the biological mother of the rapist child. I do not see how this could ever possibly be justified other than with religious ideals (Which do not apply in this LEGAL debate).

"Going through with the pregnancy and giving it to a family that is unable to have a baby or wants to adopt would be a better route to go then killing the baby.". In this context I completely agree with Pro, going through with the pregnancy just to kill the baby is a horrific thing. However, I believe what pro said is not what pro meant. Pro is insinuating that all fetuses should be allowed to developed and when finally born put up for adoption. This sounds great on paper, but when examined is completely impractical. In 2011 Iowa was home to 4,808 abortions. It is completely illogical to believe that 4,800 families a year will adopt an infant. My question to pro is, what happens when the baby is alive and no one is willing to adopt it and the mother is not willing to raise it?

A common reason for an abortion is the cost of raising the future child. If the mother can not afford to adequately raise the child.. who will pay for it? The answer is Iowa state government. This would profoundly increase the state tax.. making it harder for families that do want children to put food on the table. This increase in taxes would severely weaken the state economy, all for a mother to raise a child she that she Initialy didn't want.

Who are we as a society to tell a woman what she can and can not do with her body? Furthermore, who is Pro to tell a woman what to do with her body? You cant tell her she is "killing a child" because the fetus developing inside her is 100% dependent on her. If your argument is that a fetus has a "right to life" thats ok..But where does it gain its right to be 100% dependent on another organism to sustain that "life".
