Abortion SHOULD not be legal. To the U.S. government, an unborn baby is a human. The definition of murder is ," the crime of intentionally killing a person".

A fetus has its first heartbeat is between 20 days and six weeks. http://www.newhealthguide.org...
http://www.tfpstudentaction.org...
This shows that an unborn human being is in fact living and having an abortion ends a life. Murder and abortion both end lives. This is why having an abortion is wrong.

Abortion should be legal due to the fact that it helps out in cases of criminal reduction and population control. A study in the early 1970s has shown that abortion has affected the crime rate in a positive way. This study shows that the legalization of abortion in the 1970s has made the crime rate of 1991 drop dramatically. Therefore abortions should be allowed to drop criminal rates.

Having an abortion is not easy and quick. The mother feels a whole lot of pain and there are major risks too. The baby to feels pain. At 20 weeks, a baby is fully capable of feeling pain. The baby actually feels more pain than an adult. http://wrtl.org...
The risks women have after an abortion is having breast cancer and depression. A woman who has had an abortion, has a 50% chance of getting breast cancer than a woman who hasn't has an abortion.http://www.tfpstudentaction.org...
Two out of three women who had an abortion 12 weeks (or more) into there pregnancy, will suffer from PTSD (Post traumatic stress disorder). They will have flashbacks, anxiety, and nightmares about the abortion. Also 34% of the women who had an abortion are likely to develop an anxiety disorder.

Abortions in a lot of cases are necessary with a lot of mothers. About 50% of pregnancies are accidental or unwanted, and about 43 percent of them end up with abortions. This is due to the fact that the mothers are already struggling financially and caring for a baby would be too hard on them.

About 64,000 mothers a year are affected by ectopic pregnancies. Ectopic pregnancies are when the "fetus develops outside of the uterus." In these situations, the mother's life is in danger and the pregnancy is not able to continue into birth.

Having an abortion is against doctors' old and modern version of the Hippocratic Oath. The old oath states, " I will keep them from harm and injustice. I will neither give a deadly drug to anybody who asked for it, nor will I make a suggestion to this effect. Similarly I will not give to a woman an abortive remedy ".
http://guides.library.jhu.edu...
The modern version of the Hippocratic Oath , written by Luis Lasagna in 1964 states," still effectively forbids doctors from performing abortions in the line, "Above all, I must not play at God."".

The first and ninth amendments of the Us constitution clearly states that a US citizen has the right to all rights not listed in the constitution. This gives women the right to choose if they want an abortion or not. According to Lynne V. a health worker, most circumstance for women's choice of abortion is the cause of financial problems, living situations, and relationships.
http://www.fwhc.org...
Most women, about 83%, are unmarried and have had an unintended pregnancy. At the time and dealing with all the circumstances, the only way for most women to solve these problems are by abortions.

Women have abortions for many reasons. At the time they do have the abortion it might seem right. Some reasons why women abort is 1% of women got raped, 3% of women aborted because the fetus might be sick, and 3% of women abort because the mother"s health might be at risk or has health problems. Just because they aborted doesn"t mean the rape erases, cured the baby's health, or prevented health issues or fixing the ones the women already had. Instead of the abortion making them forget what happened they will remember more and 82% of women who had an abortion felt loneliness.

Studies have shown that most mothers who abort do not feel depression after the abortion. The most common feeling after abortion is relief, not regret.
http://prochoice.org...
In 1989, the American Psychological Association conducted a research project. This research was used to prove that abortion does NOT affect women's mental health problems for most women.

When a person in a family dies, the family griefs over their loved ones. When an innocent baby is killed purposefully the family"s connection will be affected. About 12% of women and 18% of men said that abortion affected their relationships. http://www.lifeissues.net...
In another study, 41.7% of women and 30.9% of men were highly distressed three weeks after an abortion.
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov...

Even though many people think the men don"t feel any grief over an abortion.
The men"s reactions to ta an abortions is guilt, depression, anxiety, feelings of voicelessness/powerlessness, repressed emotions, and anger among other negative reactions

Unplanned pregnancies are most likely to occur in unstable relationships.About 88% of women and 82% of men said that abortion did not affect their personal relationships. The majority amount of women are unaffected mentally after abortion is over. This proves that abortion does not affect men and women mentally or physically in their relationships.

Both sides stated their opinions in the first round, which weakens their arguments. Pro had poor grammar and Con used a lot of statistics, which made their argument stronger.

Pros arguments were not very convincing. They did not very good points, arguments . or evidence. Their sources were nice however. Con gave good arguments and evidence.

I think that a valid concern is the issue of overpopulation. I also believe that the crime theory is quite correct, everyone denies it because it is so controversial.

For example, 200 years ago, our population was relatively small. Think of 200 years from now; it is also an exponential growth model; which means the rate of change will be much higher as time approaches infinity. We will have a huge population. Thus, we cannot have the resources on earth to supply a population that is growing rapidly. The earth is not the size of jupiter, we don't have the space, land, and resources to even sustain our current population. Also think of energy consumption, 200 years ago we used a hell of a lot less of energy. Today, we are using so much energy that we are running out of fossil fuels and are creating massive amounts of pollution. We don't even have enough power (unless we go nuclear 100%). Case in point, a population above 4 billion is unsustainable; I don't think that we can even sustain our current population of 7 billion. Thus, abortion must be legal.
