A women has the right to choose what to do with her body.
RonPaulConservative

Con

With her body, not with someone elses body, I.e.murdering an unsuspecting baby
Debate Round No. 1

Pro

Except I never said nor thought that a woman had the right to murder an unsuspecting baby. A fetus is NOT a baby. A fetus has the POTENTIAL to BECOME a baby; however, as of now, it is a part of the woman's body.

A woman does NOT have the right to murder an unsuspecting baby; however, she DOES have the right to do whatever she wants with her own body. Seeing as how the fetus is a part of the woman's body, she has a right to do whatever she wants to it.
RonPaulConservative

Con

A fetus is not a party of the mothers body but a separate organism which is in fact a baby, and is endowed with certain inalienable rights since sentience, about 3 weeks after conception.
Debate Round No. 2
Kelisitaan

Pro

A fetus most certainly is a part of a woman's body; it's inside her and depends on her to live. An undeveloped fetus cannot live or become a baby without using its mother's body.

A fetus is NOT a baby; a fetus is a fetus. A baby is a baby. A fetus is NOT a baby. A fetus has the potential to BECOME a baby. A baby girl is NOT a 40-year-old woman. A baby girl is a baby girl. A baby girl has the POTENTIAL to become a 40-year-old woman.

Just because something has the POTENTIAL to become something else does not mean it is the same thing. A fetus is NOT a baby.
RonPaulConservative

Con

I never said that because something has the potential to become something that it is that thing, it cannot have the potential to become a baby because you cannot become what you already are.

Just because a person is inside another doesn't mean that that person is now part of that person, neither does being dependant on said person. You live inside a huse, and your landlord owns that house, does your landlord own you because you are now a part of that house that is hers/his? You are also dependant on your job to live, are yu a part of your job, does your boss man own your soul somehow?

Reasons for voting decision: This debate seemed more of an argument between two people who ended up saying, "nanny, nanny boo-boo!"

Reasons for voting decision: Burden of proof was on pro here and he never made any significant arguments, while con made the landlord comparison which is valid. Neither had sources or any noticeable S&G errors.

Reasons for voting decision: This was more 3 rounds of asserting opinions than it was an actual debate. Does a fetus have rights? If so, by whom, and why? Does a mother have the right to abort her unborn child? If so, according to whom, and with what justification? The only actual argument I can see in this debate was given by Con in round 3 where he gives the analogy of the landlord. Con is right that living in a rented house doesn't make you the property of the landlord, however this argument was made in the final round. Even though it was not explicitly stated in the debate that no new arguments were permitted in the last round, it is none the less poor form to do so, and so I grant arguments to Con and conduct to Pro.
