I believe that addiction is mental, it can be controlled. When people are addicted to things like tobacco and gambling, all I have is pity for them. People don't realize that they can stop whenever they want, they just don't. They have fun doing them, or have just gotten used to and don't feel like stopping.
Addiction can not always be controlled. You may see a doctor or therapist to help you get rid of the addiction but it does not always work. Take smoking for example, there is many ads of nicotine gum. It says that it will get rid of the craving but it does not always work.
Of course it doesn't work, because it isn't doing anything. there isn't any addiction to break. it is just putting more nicotine into your body. It is a craving, when you crave a piece of chocolate cake do you die if you don't get it? Same goes for smoking, the only "cold turkey" you are gonna feel is the fact that you want it. Take a 17 year old kid. He wants to have his first time, he wants to lose his virginity. He isn't gonna die if he doesn't have sex, he just wants to, he wants to know what it feels like.
