The world of television and business is now half owned by the the beast which has come in with the name of advertisement. Advertisement is a form of marketing communication which is used to promote or sell something. Firstly, advertisement is just a way to reach the common public and spread an awareness of a new product. These products which we need most of the times like soap, cosmetics, food products and now even new softwares for your PC or laptop are things which need to be advertised . Why? When we ever visit a grocery shop there are various companies available for a single product but we choose only one. This one company is the one which we are familiar with mostly from the TV. if there was one such company which had never advertised its product one has very little chance of buying it as unfamiliar products are assumed to be bad. So, everything we buy has a part of our trust and that comes from mostly the ads we see. Secondly, our trust on certain products also come from ads in another way. Let us take a product which has just released . it may also be from a new company. Now, this company has invested all its money on the product and the product .. did not work out well in the market. Automatically the company will go at a loss and will lose most of its money. This company will stop advertising. Now, we compare this product with the same from a different and well renowned company . Their product is running and they are having loads of profit. This profit will allow them to advertise further and improve their status. Thus whenever we end up seeing an ad we can assume that the product is running and is thus of good quality. Lastly, Ads have now come to the status of art. Making a good ad is also a work of art. Ads not only promotes new products but also sends a message to the society. Thus, ads always promote a good cause. The factor that bad products or products that we don't need are also shown in ads.. because they have to . Whether that product is bought or not is solely on the opinion of the buyers, ads are not responsible for changing ones opinion. i would like to end by quoting David Ogilvy .. who said " A good advertisement is one which sells product without without drawing attention to itself".

Advertising tries to get us to buy more than we need. It does let us know what's out their to buy but there is often more out their than we need. All we need is soap but than they want us to buy puffs and exfoliant and back soapers and the like. They use marketing tricks to make us buy more. Like the sense of urgency trick buy now or you might miss out on a deal. Or buy a dollar soda when they know your not just going to get a soda your going to buy more food. And they don't care about need or quality they are just interested in selling. So they will make you feel like you need more than you do. They will sell you junk that you may use one and never use again.

Rebuttal Round :

Well, Ads do not always portray soaps and soda but its a way to promote things which lets us know how good or how bad the product is. Things that are running in the market are mostly the ones that make the ads. Just because you mentioned, I was reminded of the king of soda,Cocacola. Coke has always been making ads from the time it was created.. but to the surprise of my opponent, coke has never been thrown away because it was a bad product or it was not liked by the society. Instead, about 1.9 billion cokes are sold every day throughout the world. As my opponent had just said that ads make us buy more than we need . Actually, all ads do is promote the product and buying it is solely dependent on the consumer. If someone is urged to buy an unknown product , their can be chances that the product will not turn out well. If the product is not good then most probably the thing will also not be accepted in the market and the campaign will fail. Lastly, if a product is disliked by a person it is not necessary that the product will have the same reaction from someone else.. so the sale of the product is also based on the entire opinion that the consumer has about the particular article....
