advertisements have negative effects on the society

I can't quite agree with you here. The basic idea behind advertising is simply to render potential buyers aware of one's product. If we just look at it for what it is, then is it really that bad? No, advertising produces revenues for companies, and those companies employ people. Those people go home, see an advertisement for another product, buy said product and produce revenue for a company that employs someone else. Then the cycle repeats itself. Now everyone has a job and everyone can buy things that will make their life easier and worth living. This is how our current economic system works, and while a lot of people believe that there are plenty of other, more efficient methods we could use (I don't deny such a claim, by the way), unfortunately advertising simply takes a place in society that is beneficial to the continuation of this system.

But let's look at it the way you're probably looking at it, wherein people are getting obese off of McDonalds or people are going into debt after having seen an ad for a local casino, something like that, I imagine.

Now, if you see an advertisement for a Big Mac and promptly go out to buy one, is it really the advertisement's fault that you just consumed an entire day's worth of calories in one simple burger? Or perhaps is it the fault of the person who saw the advertisement in the first place and didn't have the self-control to stop themselves from going out and purchasing something that they know very well to be harmful to their health?
