Pro

It tells them that they need help, that they are nothing but their races, and that the country feels sorry for them. At least that's how I see it. I recognize that it does have benefits, but this is about whether it's racist.

I'll be honest: I just want to reach my three debates as quickly as possible so I can vote; I wouldn't feel the need to start a debate about this otherwise - but I still intend to take this seriously.
RationalMadman

Con

Affirmative action is not racist against minorities, it is racist FOR minorities.
Debate Round No. 1
john.klepac

Pro

"For"? You mean that it's to minorities' benefit? I'll buy that. But I think it's racist against minorities as well as whites - not only "reverse racism" (I don't care for that term) but traditional racism too (though I don't think whether racism is "reverse" depends at all on a power balance, real or otherwise).
RationalMadman

Con

Yes it's racist against majorities but racist for minorities.
Debate Round No. 2
john.klepac

Pro

You seem to neglect the idea that it is not entirely to minorities' benefit. Besides the implications I've mentioned about their worth to society and themselves, affirmative action creates unnecessary strife among the races by creating institutionalized preferences of some over others, leading to widespread resentment of minorities.
RationalMadman

Con

Resentment of minorities is there regardless. All affirmative action does is force the employers to hire some of a certain creed to oppose the hate.

But... but... he didn't even argue anything! How is he winning this? This shouldn't be about whether you agree with his position in absolutes...

Let's have another 400 years of slavery, but this time with white slaves and blacks as the slaveholders. Then let's see if the pros in this debate change their mind. Affirmative Action is a moral concept that helps heal centuries of human exploitation, including mass massacres against entire Indian communities. But since Afirmative Action is a concept created by a democrat president (Bill CLinton), many anti-social groups reject it and try to denigrate it, which is very shameful.

Wait, misread your vote. Never mind on that last part, but my first point still stands.

@darkkermit: I made NO argument? Gee, tough room. The other guy didn't even say anything but issues of semantics ("to" vs. "against"). Also, if I made no argument, why was how convincing our arguments were the only place you gave me a single point? May not be my place to say this, but your vote seems a little biased.

Reasons for voting decision: Rational didn't argue a thing, and even concede that "yes it's racist against minorities". That ends it. Conduct for Pro because they at least tried to debate.

Reasons for voting decision: I don't believe Pro fulfilled his burden of proof. Con's arguments, while not entirely impressive, were more convincing than those made by Pro.
