I will be arguing against the resolution, and my opponent will argue in support. BOP is shared.

The United States of America was clearly based of Christian principles. Within the first few sentences of both the US Constitution and the Declaration of independence God's name was mentioned. The court systems of the US even have you swear upon the bible. This a short argument for one reason and one reason only. God's holy name is mentioned in every document, the Constitution, the Declaration of Independence, and almost the entire Constitution is based off of biblical morals, values, and truths. I have gleamed this information from the bible, the Constitution, and the Declaration of Independence. America is one nation under God. Amen.

Not only do the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence talk about the Christian God, but the Bill of Rights also includes the phrases "under God... all men created equally under God..." and many more. These phrases clearly state that the United States of America was founded on Christian morals, ethics, values, and principles.

My friend, I bid you take your chance to put up an argument. I wish for the thrill of debate. I do not enjoy the ruthless verbal slaughter that I could unleash on you as you helplessly stand to the side and forfeit each and every round. Do not lose hope and debate me until the end. I am giving you one chance before I verbally slaughter you and your argument.

1. "God' and the word "god" are not exclusively Christian. The presence of the word is not compelling. Furthermore, the document says "Our creator" and "Nature's God", which are deist terms, not Christian. Pro assumes all references to a higher power must be their Christian god, because they choose to see it this way.

2. The "Divine Providence" line was added to the text against Jefferson's wishes. Jefferson was an avowed secularist. The line was much debated then and still is today.

3. The court tradition of using a bible to swear in witnesses is not mandatory. One can use any sacred text to swear an individual in. I have seen Muslim witnesses use the Koran. Witnesses are only required to use a "Holy Scripture" and there are many kinds of holy scripture.

4. The name"jesus" NEVER appears in any of our founding documents or laws. None of them. Christianity is about the teachings of Jesus. no Jesus, no Christian foundation.

5. Most of the founders believed Christianity to be a corrupting influence on the teachings of Jesus.

6. Pro assumes all humanist morality to be based in Christian tradition, while ignoring the Christian tradition of torture and persecution to propagate the faith, which the original settlers, the Calvinist Pilgrims, fled from due to being labeled as apostates. (remember children, none of the Pilgrims were founding fathers.

7. "Under god" wasn't added to the pledge until the 1950's. Amen.

8. I GLEANED this information from reading history, paying attention in Catholic school, and reading more than just the Bible and founding documents.

CON- feel free to use any of these examples.
