Animals were created by god to eaten, Acts 10:9-16 9 The next day, as they went on their journey and drew near the city, Peter went up on the housetop to pray, about the sixth hour. 10 Then he became very hungry and wanted to eat; but while they made ready, he fell into a trance 11 and saw heaven opened and an object like a great sheet bound at the four corners, descending to him and let down to the earth. 12 In it were all kinds of four-footed animals of the earth, wild beasts, creeping things, and birds of the air. 13 And a voice came to him, "Rise, Peter; kill and eat."

I appreciate the challenge.

Rebuttel

My opponent is using the Bible and the Christian religion to justify not giving animals rights. However, he does not mention that this is debate is based on the Bible within his resolution, as a matter of fact, he doesn't give a resolution at all. I will give the resolution since my careless: Resolved: Animals should have Rights.

This is a secular debate. In order for my opponent to succeed in his argument, he will have to prove the Bible is true and worthy of recogition. Until then the voters should pay no attention to his case.

Contention 1

To accept animal rights only means that there is some things one should not do to animals. Obviously, we can eat animals as we see this in all of nature. However, there is certain things we should not do like abuse them, and treat them with utter apathy and cruelty. I will be basing this argument on the fact that we humans are also animals. We are apart of the animal kingdom and have evolved along with all other animals. If we have rights then other animals most certainly have rights too. Other animals do not abuse each other meaninglessly so why should humans do this to other species?
