Animals from animal shelters should not be put down because it is unfair to people who just decide that they want to adopt, it is a cruel thing to do to a living creature just because they don't have enough room for them. If they can do it to pets then, in the future, what stops them from doing it to humans? They could have shelters that are just weighting for animals that have been there for more than 6 months. The way that the world thinks is not fair to older animals because people go for more of the younger and more playful puppies, kittens, or another type of animal someone may be adopting. It is not fare for an animal to be put to death just because they are old or because no one wants them. Older pets might be closer to the end and less active but, they were obviously a loyal companion once and its not fair for them to be loyal then nobody adopt them just because they are not a puppy. All shelters should be a no kill shelter because it's just fair to those who nobody has been fair too. Thank you.

Hello,
Yes I see you side of the argument but have you considered how many shelters would be full if we didn't put down the animals in the certain time. The shelters, especially in the city, are very full with most of their cages full. The people that operate the shelters aren't stupid and they follow guidelines, they can tell when a dog is stray and when it has a clear owner. Furthermore, now less and less dogs are being put down with technology that chips the animal so they can return it to the owner quickly. The animals that live on the street's still do have a life and linking to animal rights they do still have a chance hence why there are loads of charities out there now that have been set up to re-home stray dog's but the companies and government's that operate the public shelters don't have the time or resources to re-home all stray dogs. They will keep the dog's that they think are pets for longer and they will try return them to their owner but not everything is possible. The dog's are put down in a very safe and painless manner and for the dog handlers this is really the last thing they want to do and they do try and avoid it but sometimes they will have to euthanize them because the single animal is costing them to much.
