Forget about Republicans being a far right wing party, Democrats are right wing too, at least when you compare them to governments in most other countries. I heard a lot of liberals say this. The United States has no left and has no center, only a right and a far right. Do you agree?

I accept this debate. Now, as my opponent points out, America is a fairly conservative nation. This is not going to be disputed. What will be, is the resolution. My opponent claims that America's Democratic Party is more conservative than most other countries, and states that most other countries are more left wing. This is simply not true. Before I begin I would like to make three definitions and one observation.

Anarchism: a political theory holding all forms of governmental authority to be unnecessary and undesirable and advocating a society based on voluntary cooperation and free association of individuals and groups.
http://www.merriam-webster.com...

Since Pro made no definition for left or right-wing politics, I will provide one.

Right-wing: Holding conservative views (Smaller government, laissez faire, etc.)
http://dictionary.reference.com...

Left-wing: Holding liberal views (Stronger government, government involvement in economy, etc.)
http://dictionary.reference.com...

Observation: Anarchy is a far-right philosophy. Due to the fact that an authoritarian government is far left, a lack of government is logically far-right. Particularly neo-liberal anarchism, is the opposite of the authoritarian structure the radical left wing follows.

I will offer two point of contention.

1. Many countries have little to no federal government.
2. Many countries are economically and socially more conservative than the US.

Although when compared to many EU member countries, as well as other authoritarian governments such as China or Cuba, America is conservative, my opponent is omitting data when saying Democrats are right wing compared to the rest of the world. As I have shown, anarchy is a far-right ideal. Many countries have no federal government, or their government is so weak that they would fall under the category of anarchy. Thailand is an example of this. The government is too weak to function. [1] The US-based Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) found "such a government cannot make crucial budget decisions, cannot pass important legislation, and cannot reach international agreements. In other words, it cannot lead, either at home or abroad." This is essentially anarchy. Somalia, Afghanistan, and the DRC, among many more, have almost nothing in the form of government. [2] These countries are plagued by a struggle to become the strongest clan or warlord or terrorist organization. They have no government, and are therefore more right-wing than the United States. Many such countries exist, putting the United States in the middle, and the Democrats in the left wing. Additionally, one country even decided not to do anything with their government. Belgium famously went without government for 541 days, almost two years, and it didn't even cause much concern among the populous. [3]

Many countries are also not as economically or socially liberal as the United States. For example, most countries offer only partial minimum wage (meaning that some industries have it while others don't) and a few offer none at all (N. Korea, UAE, Guinea, Somalia, Kazakhstan, and Suriname). [4] Homosexuality is another front where the United States leans liberal. Even though only some states allow marriage, this puts America among some of the world's most liberal countries, such as Canada and many EU member states. In many countries they can't be married, homosexuality is illegal altogether, or in a few African and Middle Eastern countries, is still punishable by death. [5] Abortion is another issue that America is far left on. We have nearly unrestricted abortion laws, and the Democrats support a woman's right to choose. Many countries are more restrictive or completely outlaw abortions. [6]

Thank you, and for these reasons I urge the voters to support Con.

thats very much obvious. Americans will be surprised when they meet the real left. The only thing common between the Democrats and rest of the world left is atheism, women rights and stuff. Economically they are right

You should probably define "right-wing".

Reasons for voting decision: Con's counter-arguments went entirely uncontested, so arguments go to Con. Conduct to Con for Pro's round forfeits. Con's winning arguments were nicely backed by sources, so source points go to Con.
