Are Gays Predators?
Debate Rounds (5)
One of the fondest memories I have of summer camp are the gay counselors. We loved these guys and thought it special when we assigned to their barracks.
But that was over 40 years ago. Things change.
Make no mistake about it, the gay community's obsession with gay Scout Masters is rooted in predation. What else explains why some gay men are so obessed with being Scout Masters, but predation?
And I'm aware my question will cause a flood of messages to Debate.org demanding I be banned, but what about the Boy Scouts of America? Will there next be a demand our federal government ban it?
Obviously, the BSA wants to protect the boys. And just as obviously their files reveal a significant percentage of gay men can't be trusted around boys.
Most gay males surely find pedophilia repugnant -- but how long do we pretend ALL gay males do?
I have found a few studies that proves your assertions wrong and points out that homosexual men are no more likely than hetrosexual men to be "predators" on children.
"Dr. A. Nicholas Groth wrote:
Are homosexual adults in general sexually attracted to children and are preadolescent children at greater risk of molestation from homosexual adults than from heterosexual adults? There is no reason to believe so. The research to date all points to there being no significant relationship between a homosexual lifestyle and child molestation. There appears to be practically no reportage of sexual molestation of girls by lesbian adults, and the adult male who sexually molests young boys is not likely to be homosexual (Groth & Gary, 1982, p. 147).(http://psychology.ucdavis.edu...)"
"Using the fixated-regressed distinction, Groth and Birnbaum (1978) studied 175 adult males who were convicted in Massachusetts of sexual assault against a child. None of the men had an exclusively homosexual adult sexual orientation. 83 (47%) were classified as "fixated;" 70 others (40%) were classified as regressed adult heterosexuals; the remaining 22 (13%) were classified as regressed adult bisexuals. Of the last group, Groth and Birnbaum observed that "in their adult relationships they engaged in sex on occasion with men as well as with women. However, in no case did this attraction to men exceed their preference for women....There were no men who were primarily sexually attracted to other adult males..." (p.180). "
"Other researchers have taken different approaches, but have similarly failed to find a connection between homosexuality and child molestation. Dr. Carole Jenny and her colleagues reviewed 352 medical charts, representing all of the sexually abused children seen in the emergency room or child abuse clinic of a Denver children's hospital during a one-year period (from July 1, 1991 to June 30, 1992). The molester was a gay or lesbian adult in fewer than 1% of cases in which an adult molester could be identified " only 2 of the 269 cases (Jenny et al., 1994)."
"Another problem related to terminology arises because sexual abuse of male children by adult men is often referred to as "homosexual molestation." The adjective "homosexual" (or "heterosexual" when a man abuses a female child) refers to the victim's gender in relation to that of the perpetrator. Unfortunately, people sometimes mistakenly interpret it as referring to the perpetrator's sexual orientation." Your information may say homosexual abuse but that does not technically mean that these men are homosexual in the sense of their sexual orientation.
Now this is only a fraction of the many tests/studies that colleges and others have done on the subject, but I believe this clearly shows already you are making assumptions and claims based on your own views and thoughts.
My opponent gives us two flawed studies to make his case. In both, the audience is asked to believe men who molest boys when they say they're not gay. If we catch one of these fellows in bed with a dozen underage boys we would be remiss in concluding he's gay.
Secondly, the first study my opponent cites (Groth) is 35 years old. Is that the best my opponent can do? Meanwhile, the second cite is 25 years old.
Why can't my opponent present studies that are current?
Here is a much more recent study on the topic which supports 1. gays can not be only targeted and classified as "predators" 2. why are we blaming pedophilia on their sexual orientation?
" Charles C. Roberts barricaded himself in an Amish schoolhouse in rural Pennsylvania, where he intended to sexually molest the young girls in the classroom. But before he could do it, he started shooting. Ten girls were shot " five died " before he finally turned the gun on himself.5 This happened only a week after Duane Morrison burst into a classroom at Platte Canyon High School in Bailey, Colorado. He took several girls hostage and sexually assaulted some before releasing four. Two were still in the classroom when a SWAT team shot its way in. Morrison shot one girl as she tried to run away and then killed himself.
In neither case was the predator"s heterosexual orientation cited as an explanation for his crime. Psychotherapist and author Joe Kort points out that when men molest little girls, they"re specifically called "pedophiles" or "sexual predators." But when men molest boys, they're simply called "homosexuals," as though sexual orientation were responsible for driving these men to their crimes.(http://www.boxturtlebulletin.com...) (Tsai, Catherine. "Colo. school attack "sexual in nature."" Associated Press (September 28, 2006). (Kort, Joe. "Homosexuality and pedophilia: The false link". Kort"s Corner no. 38 (2005). http://www.joekort.com... (accessed September 21, 2005).
"How Could "Straight" Men Be Attracted To Boys?"
"If these molesters aren't lying when they say they're straight, why would they abuse boys? What could possibly be the attraction?
Dr. W.L. Marshall and his colleagues conducted a similar set of phallometric tests on a sample of gay and straight men, except this time they used more photos of young boys and girls covering a wider age span. They noticed that for those gay men who were attracted to males under 18, they tended to be attracted to young men who were well past the age of puberty (age 15 or older), with fully-developed adult genitalia and other features that were characteristically masculine. But when heterosexual men showed an attraction towards younger males, they tended to be attracted to pre-pubescent males (ages 9-11):
Amongst the heterosexuals, the commonest remarks concerning attractive features of the victims, were that the young boys did not have any body hair and that their bodies were soft and smooth.31
This explains the apparent contradiction of straight men abusing young boys. They really are straight " they"re responding to the feminine qualities of pre-pubescent boys, qualities that gay men didn"t find appealing. After all, gay men are, by definition, attracted to men; the feminine characteristics of young boys were a turn-off to them.(Marshal, W.L.; Barbaree, H.E.; Butt, Jennifer. "Sexual offenders against male children: Sexual preferences." Behaviour Research and Therapy 26, no. 5 (1988): 383-391.) now although this is a older study I believe it has very good information which answers your statement "the audience is asked to believe men who molest boys when they say they're not gay"
I have more information for next round and will conclude my round 2 argument. Thank you.
Directly above my opponent gives us a rambling recitation of heterosexual child molestation cases to make the point it's unfair to call incidents of man-boy molestation homosexual. My opponent appears to be on a mission. It burns his butt the aspect of homosexuality is dragged into the mix when man-boy molestation happens.
He may have have a point -- but if he does, it's a point beyond the scope of this debate. In addition, it misses the point of this debate which is homosexuality may be a pedophile slippery slope -- it may lead to man-boy lust.
Check out almost any gay escort service site and you'll see images of models who all appear to be underage boys. Perhaps if my opponent explained why this is, we could better understand his object to calling a spade a spade.
men4rentnow.com I see gay men, rentboy.com I see gay men, rentmen.com I see gay men, boyscort.com I see gay men. I searched exactly what you told me to look up and all that comes up are over 18 year old gay men. Any site that has underage boys which you claim so many do are illegal.
"homosexuality is dragged into the mix when man-boy molestation happens."
Personally I believe my opponent has some terms confused. Any case when it is man-boy molestation it is homosexual in its literal form "same sex" not in reference to the persons sexual orientation.
In my article above with Dr. W.L. Marshall it clearly states that many homosexual man were attracted not to pre puberty boys which contradicts your argument that some gay men have pedophilia. In the research done above it actually shows that Hetrosexual men are more likely to be attracted to pre puberty boys which would mean hetroexual men are more likely to have pedophilia.
"it may lead to man-boy lust."
Now obviously there are some gay men who are attracted to boys but by definition Gay men are attracted to MEN not pre puberty boys. which would mean there girly like features would be a turn off. (as stated in my above research that my opponent called rambling)
vocabulary- pedophilia- "Pedophilia or paedophilia is a psychiatric disorder in which an adult or older adolescent experiences a primary or exclusive sexual attraction to prepubescent children, generally age 11 years or younger. As a medical diagnosis, specific criteria for the disorder extends the cut-off point for prepubescence to age 13.(http://en.wikipedia.org...)"
Again you have yet to link a single site to support you and your arguments have yet to lead to anything substantial. I urge you to actually research and give me something to actually debate and think about. Thank you.

Reasons for voting decision: Conduct: forfeit. Convincing argument: Con proves that only 1% of molestations occur due to gay people, which means that -- if anything -- gay people are less likely to be molesters than straight people. Con even provides an explanation for why this might be the case: gay men are attracted to masculine features, which pre-pubescent boys lakc. Pro provides no statistics of his own to back up his assertions. Sources: Con had a lot of studies to prove his point. Pro did not cite a single source.
